Cool that we can regulate electric scooters into uselessness in cities but to digitally regulate the speed and parking behavior of cars (almost all of which come equipped with onboard GPS and electronics) is not something that’s even being discussed.

Instead carmakers put forward proposals to GPS tag school kids so that their cars might avoid them.

Scooter app notification about designated low-speed zones.
Scooter parking ban notification (“Sorry you can’t park here”) in app in an area where there are designated cluster areas.

@alper well. A car can be town away resulting in the owner having to pay a lot, even if doesn’t work in 100% of the cases. The scooters are just there obstructing the walkways + pedestrians have no peace with people riding those things where they shouldn’t.

This never happens and the situation with cars in Berlin is so out of control that automatic enforcement is the only way to dig out of this hole.

@alper The question is: What does work in Berlin? 😂

@lontrachen Everything here is rotten. Something about them getting rid of the institutional history of the city and every non-stupid person in it during a certain period in the 20th century.

@alper Berlin is weird. My neighborhood in Hamburg you can only park your car if you are resident and even inside the neighborhood you can only park in the direct area of your address. All others need to pay. And the guys checking do come a lot even in the night (since it is a party area). I already saw many cars being towed in front of my house.

Unlike the E-Scooters: I can’t exit my house without first looking carefully, almost got hit many times by them.

@alper Also they annoy exactly there, where people have already a lot of options. People living in areas far away who could really need better transportation don’t have them.

It’s not a meaningful way of making things better, it’s a very annoying business model.

@lontrachen They’re absurdly convenient when you need them and they get demographics into micromobility who would otherwise not consider it. There are large groups of people for whom cycling is not an option.
