We were just talking about this situation last weekend, when a restaurant we were going to go to had an extra service charge that wasn't advertised. And it wasn't a mandatory tip. It was a service charge that would just go to the restaurant.

"New California law will ban restaurant surcharges, hidden fees

Restaurants will no longer be able to charge service fees and will instead have to fold the charges into its menu prices."
