We had our second visit to #PaseoAnaheim last night. A friend and I shared the Caesar salad, which was really good. I particularly enjoyed the dressing.

I also tried the tuna ceviche, which I also really liked. And they included a pretty slice of watermelon radish. I'm still wondering about the beans being used for the chips, whether they're washed and re-used or just thrown away. I feel like it's such a waste if they're thrown away. #DowntownDisneyAnaheim /1

And I really wanted to try the mussels, which are listed in the small plates category. Umm, not a small plate. Plenty of food and a GIANT HUNK OF GRILLED BREAD. The mussels were good, and I liked the pickled vegetables with it. Gave it a much different flavor than regular mussels. And boy, that bread was wonderful.

I also ordered a side of black beans to try, though I was disappointed that both the black bean and pinto bean sides are pureed. I prefer whole beans. /2

Oh, and I remembered to take a picture of the multicolored tortilla this time. Isn't it pretty? Next time, I want to watch them make them for a little while because they're behind glass so you can see them.

Two of us had the maya-thai, with the salted guava foam. We'd gotten a taste of the foam last time, and it was so good. The entire drink is really good.

The dessert menu, written this time! I had the mango again. #PaseoAnaheim #DowntownDisneyAnaheim /3 end

A friend noticed this new drum accessory set for R series droids. The description on the back says it includes an exclusive personality chip. Hope that doesn't mean it gives the droid the propensity to spontaneously combust.

Lunch yesterday was at , and I had the bantha burger. There's the pork belly underneath the angus beef and vegetable patty. I really enjoyed the burger, and the asian-inspired slaw added a nice freshness in lieu of lettuce and tomato, and I liked the kimchi-like bit of heat. Good burger all around.

Been a while since we've done 7am to 11pm in the parks, but May the 4th on a Saturday would be a good day to do it. Spent a lot of time with friends, sometimes just chatting and laughing. Spending hours on - time very well spent.

Had a chance to try the breakfast chimichanga today from #ShipToShore at #Disneyland. Inside is scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and cheese. Really good except that the scrambled eggs make the outside a bit mushy, and having the crispiness of a normal chimichanga would have made it even better.

I saw last night celebrating its 45th anniversary. It's been a seriously long time since I've seen the film, and I don't know if I've ever seen it in a theatre.

The Fox logo at the beginning looks so weird, and the fanfare is a shorter version than the one I'm used to, but other than that, the film holds up really well. 1/2

Well-drawn characters, good actors, great set design and production design, terrific score and that amazing creature. I did jump once or twice, and it was so tense throughout so much of the film.

Before the film, showed a conversation / interview between (director of the upcoming ) and , mostly discussing aspects of the original film. I especially liked hearing about how got involved with the film. 2/2

We were just talking about this situation last weekend, when a restaurant we were going to go to had an extra service charge that wasn't advertised. And it wasn't a mandatory tip. It was a service charge that would just go to the restaurant.

"New California law will ban restaurant surcharges, hidden fees

Restaurants will no longer be able to charge service fees and will instead have to fold the charges into its menu prices."

I went to an early screening of last night. I thought the movie was a bit uneven, in that there were dialogue scenes and then there were action scenes, and they never seemed to mesh.

The best things about the movie are and , who are both really good and have great chemistry together. I also enjoyed seeing as well as in what was to me a surprising role. /1

As you'd expect, the stunt scenes are often over the top. I do like me the stunts, but they can be outlandish when not in service to story. I've felt that way about the more recent "Fast and Furious" films, and I felt that a few times during this film.

There are particular gender depictions that I really disliked and that I found disappointing in a film, especially with those two particular leads. /2

I appreciated the nods to a particular favorite song of mine as well as a favorite TV show from the past. Yes, I'm being vague to avoid spoilers. And I laughed pretty hard at a well-placed use of a more recent popular song from a very famous singer/songwriter.

You'll want to stay until they turn the projector off because during the main credits, they show a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of them shooting the stunts. /3

cstephens2,
@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

While I appreciate the attention they're given, I thought it was ironic that they didn't just show them on their own, but rather, in watching the footage, you're missing out on seeing their names in the actual credits.

And, after the main portion of the credits, there is another scene you won't want to miss, and you'll even want to stay for the rest of the credits after that to enjoy a cover of a particular song. /4 end

We made our first visit to #PaseoAnaheim last night, right before official opening day today.

We started with an amuse bouche that included corn tortillas (which were underneath the folded napkin, and which I apparently didn't think to take a picture of). I really liked them, and they were sort of multi-colored patchwork quilt - very cool. The cheese was really good, as was the salsa and black bean spread. /1

We shared the Yucatan ceviche, which I really liked. Really nice flavor. The presentation of the chips were really interesting - the beans are just to keep the chips upright.

I really enjoyed the octopus, and I liked the ahi / root vegetable confit, but warning that it's got quite a bit of heat. #PaseoAnaheim /2

A friend and I shared the whole fried red snapper. Doesn't it look amazing? There were fried fish pieces too, but I really enjoyed the fried "bones" part. And the sauces and slaw were really good too.

The husband had the lamb barbacoa and really enjoyed it. I had a taste, and it was really good.

Brussel sprouts, of course, were tasty. #PaseoAnaheim /3

We tried all three desserts. My favorite was the mango ice cream with chamoy and watermelon cubes, but the other two chocolate-y desserts were really good too. The "corn cob" is actually molded white chocolate colored to look like corn. I'm not a fan of white chocolate, but it looked cool.

Looking forward to future visits to try more things. We also toured the restaurant, and they've done a great job with the decor and the gorgeous views of #DowntownDisneyAnaheim . #PaseoAnaheim /4 end
