@ambivalena Green always indicates renewal, life, & freshness to me. Growing up in a city, I always yearned for the forest. Forest green was my go-to color of choice. But after living in the forest & moving to the high desert I appreciate green even more. When the desert greens up in the spring it is amazing! One of the nice things about Reno, however, is living at the knees of the mighty Sierra Mountain Range I have tall mountains & evergreen forests to the west & open desert to the east!
@elaterite I can really understand that. I love living in a country with four seasons and the spring is really wonderful after a black and white winter season. I have always lived near nature, and would not feel good in a city at all. Greatful that I can live like that, and near the Sea.
@ambivalena Yes, the sea, I miss it. Growing up in Los Angeles I could ride my bike to the beach. After moving to Reno, I had a friend in Lake County west of me in California. He had a boat and we'd go ocean fishing several times per year. But he moved to Oregon and later sold his boat. So it has been a long time since I've seen or smelled the sea. You're very lucky living near the sea. There's something so primal about being in the presence of an ocean.
@elaterite Oh, I get that you miss that a lot, as you say it is really nice to live near water of any kind. I am brought up in an area with a lot of lakes so I like that a lot too.
But, the small of the sea is something very special.
@ambivalena Ya, the sea is very special & I miss visiting it several times per year. Lakes are great though, & I'd bet lakes in Sweden are spectacular! We have an interesting mix here in Northern Nevada. 20-30 minutes away is alpine Lake Tahoe & we have several remnant ice age endorheic lakes, Pyramid & Mono Lakes being the most notable. The one of Emerald Bay with comet NEOWISE has an interesting feature in the back of the bay called Vikingsholm. Here's a story about it: http://vikingsholm.com/
@ambivalena Ya, the comet was really fun to see and photograph --thanks. And ya, quiet secret lakes and ponds in the forest are really cool. There's so much life in and around them.
@ambivalena Oh ya. I'm a sky watcher. Use to be an amateur astronomer but I no longer have a telescope. Yes, I planned that shot carefully. Made others of the comet in two other places. Not at my computer so can't post them. Did you see the comet in 2020?
@elaterite Ah that is really cool, and I am interested in the sky but not (yet) on that scale as you.
And no I did not see it, and I can´t recall why for the moment. Perhaps I didn´t even know about it at the time.
@ambivalena Oh, too bad, NEOWISE was a really great comet. It was as good as Hale-Bopp (1995) or Hyakutake (1996). Did you see those? I'd guess if you looked there's probably a Swedish astronomy club that puts out a newsletter. Dr. Becky at Oxford has a Night Sky News each month on YouTube. Sky & Telescope is a good source. Their short monthly podcast reviews what to watch for each month. They also have a weekly article summarizing what to look for.
