Sometimes I get sad thinking about what could have been, and how many deep wounds could have been healed. I can see a world where we can all say "imperialism was bad, slavery was bad, colonialism was bad, and exploiting smaller countries for their natural resources is bad. Let's choose to do better."
When I think about which royals could bridge our current world with that better world, I think of Harry and Meghan.
@mekkaokereke I have never really had any interest in the royals, but my folks lived in Zimbabwe for a while back in the late 80s. Dianna was the "people's princess" but she did so much more to put eyes on leprosy, poverty, aids, land mines. The crown seems to have moved back towards it's conservative leanings since those days.
@swelljoe@mekkaokereke When I started hearing the slander, I took a look at a few of her speaking events while an official royal. She reminded me very much of Diana: sincere, genuine, well spoken, her heart on her sleeve. And I think that's why the "official royals" hated her. They can't compete with that. Diana's husband (at the time) resented the attention she got instead of being proud of her.
There's talk about how they keep glued to press and add rumours will necessary. Guess they...
@mekkaokereke They're better off out, and (speaking as a citizen of the kingdom) we're better off having royals who choose to leave. I do understand that power of the image, but you can't heal imperialism from within a monarchy. They made the right choice to leave - an important choice. The sad thing is who remains. But it is a chink in the armour. A sign that even those born to royalty can see that it's wrong.
