Something I think about sometimes is the difference between us late bloomers and the Trans kids now.

I look around at all the Trans women my age and it's like we're this weird cookie cutter form where the similarities are fucking eerie.

And I think of all the young kids now, and how there might be so much variation in the Trans community with those kids. How I hope none of them will be cookie cut-outs.

The sad truth is when I stop to think about it, I know why all the late blooming Trans girls are the same.

@DivineKestrel the trans kids i work with...yeah, it's a different ball game and their relationship to transness can be complicated in completely different ways as a result.

Like, the middle schoolers are just as varied as their cis peers. The high schoolers...if they are transitioning at that age, they are already carrying that trauma we have, just a much less reinforced version. I see my high school self in some of these girls so much it's scary - but there's also some i can't really relate to directly because they are so different. And my hope is we can keep all those girls not just alive but able to have full, great lives.

And i look around for the girls even my age in our 30s who would be the parallels of some of these girls...and they are just missing and it breaks my fucking heart and makes me want to do illegal things. So I will just keep bringing that fury into fiercely caring for these kids as best i can

@DivineKestrel I sometimes unfortunately encounter older trans women who make a point of showing dislike to those who don't fit their experiences and views. E.g., mocking pronouns or whatever. This just makes me sad.

We should be happy that those younger than us have it easier (sometimes). Maybe we can be a bit envious too (I am) but not resent them for it.

@ljrk Older Trans women can sometimes act in ways that are somewhat indistinguishable from grumpy old men. It genuinely makes me sad. I'm so excited to see the younger Trans people having fun. I wish I could have experienced that, true, but I would never want to denigrate them for having it easier, and I genuinely don't understand why anyone would.

This is, actually, something I've noticed in the broader LGBTQ+ community. David Sedaris gave a talk in Portland where he went off on a tear about children using the term Queer and how angry it made him because they don't know anything about how painful it was and how meaningless it is.

I sat there the whole time thinking Wow, there's just no love for how far we've come. Like, how could you not be happy that children today feel THAT comfortable exploring their sexuality?! It was straight up like he wanted it to be "The Old Days." If I had to suffer, you should too. WTF?

@DivineKestrel Jup, and of course, we all get it: Growing up was pain, later life was pain, traumas etc.

But it's so sad that people cannot see joy in the happiness of others.

@DivineKestrel Maybe, maybe not. Mulling over similarities here, lots of categories

@DivineKestrel I've given up trying to find other trans girls born in '81, pretty sure I only made it because of exceptional suffering early on.

@sophie hi, I'm '81 vintage, nice to meet you

@Tattie holy shit... 18 months of searching... couldn't find anyone from '80 to '83 (i've found a few '79s and '84s)

@sophie @Tattie '87 here...so a few years younger but in the ballpark

@sophie @Tattie i still think of people as "born before or after the fall og the berlin wall" 😅

sophie,
@sophie@thetransagenda.gay avatar

@JoscelynTransient @Tattie The Berlin wall was the touchstone of GenX... I remember the wall falling on TV... but it didn't mean anything to me at the time.

@sophie @Tattie meanwhile i work with grown ass adults who don't remember 9/11...because they were born after it 💀
