@knowprose thank you! I really appreciate that. There have been so many false promises, over promises and half truths — it's heartening when something bears out, but that's typically scoped to far more reasonable projects and small-scale promises.
@starbreaker oh certainly — I like that the FTC has been much more heavy-handed lately but that continuing is entirely contingent on the election.
Folks also act like MSFT is some sort of benevolent ally of developers which isn't the sort of reputation they're owed given past behavior. They've championed TypeScript, own GitHub and npm, established VS Code as a web dev default and that's a position that could readily be abused.
@starbreaker exactly — their whole-hearted push into all the AI hype should be a glaring red flag too. I'll use it if I have to but I won't invest in it.
They haven't ruined GitHub or npm — yet, but they're not anyone's friend.
Apple's been making questionable choices ever since they began pushing into services and the vision pro is nonsense.
@starbreaker honestly, if it's not viable without all of that theft, then it shouldn't be pursued. You don't get to run around pointing at everything and shouting “Mine!" just because you got funding.
We went from being ardently opposed to scraping to re-orienting the whole industry around it.
