sunbeam60,

Yes, let’s make that thing that WORKS in every other country illegal. British laws for British people!!

geophysicist,

Well I think the stupidity of the proposal is summarised here:

There is also some doubt about the safety case for a ban. In London, which has the highest number of floating bus stops in the UK, statistics for 2020-22 showed that of 623 pedestrians injured after being struck by a bike, 0.6% of them – four in all – were hit at floating bus stops. None of these incidents appeared to have happened at a designated crossing point. Over the same period, 11,400 pedestrians and 15,000 cyclists were injured after being hit by motor vehicles.

Tweak,

Yeah, I mean apparently this is being driven by charities for the blind, but you can even see in the main image for the article that there is a defined crossing over the cycle lane with different texture pavement tiles. The blind are far from being ignored here.

davidagain,

It’s just a typical conservative tactic - pretend to care about one group whilst actually hating on another. Ask them to do something actually useful for the group they pretend to care for and you’ll find that “sadly” it’s just too expensive.

Do not live in London. So never come accross these stops.

But as I use a white stick. I really don’t see an issue. Cyclists can be awful when looking out for visually impaired. But it seems the bus stop would likely force a slow down and expectation of passengers.
