Diggin', diggin'... the East Asian #AMradio scene 🍛
This time I found two Chinese blogs related to radio. One, 5bcl.com, doesn't seem to be updated regularly, but another, blog.xmgspace.me, is more active as the author calls himself an #otaku 😜
Both blogs share what I think mirrors overall attitude to CCP government & outside world: caution they deal w/ certain stations... you know what I mean 🤠 if not, can you spot which stations are missing in this otherwise convenient #shortwave schedule?
Recently, a #IRCA (International Radio Club of America) group, which discusses #MWDX, has been hot about a phenomenon of Chinese #mediumwave#AMradio#jamming... or a strange defect of some 🇨🇳 MW transmitters... or both 🤔
"... neither Israel nor Hamas (are) being able to track passive AM reception - hence the permission for troops in Gaza to use transistor radios"... unlike cellphones.
That's why Galei Zahal is on AM now too. 945 & 1287 kHz.
DX Central's Loyd Van Horn is pleased to announce a new week for the 3rd season of the MW Frequency Challenge.
Week 4: DXers focus on a range from 1500-1540 kHz, trying to receive as many radio stations in that range as possible during the span of one week. This includes any radio station on 10 kHz North & South American frequencies, as well as stations on the 9 kHz frequencies used by Europe, Africa & Asia.
WLAC AM - Nashville, TN - Program: Armstrong & Getty. Not DX at all really (distance: 185mi) - but the first station copied within the freq range for the DX Central MW Frequency Challenge. First time I’ve paid attention to the programming / station ID on this station. #DXCentralMWfrequencyChallenge#AMradio
Yesterday, around 17:30UTC, the Danish long wave transmitter ‘Kalundborg’ stopped transmitting after 96years of service.
The MW transmitter was taken down and the tower was demolished 10 years ago, but the LW was kept operational at 50kW TX PWR, until yesterday.
An end of an era of almost 100 years AM broadcast in Denmark.
Driving to my friends New Year’s party, I listened to it in my car. Quality was amazing - I don’t think people of today realize how well this actually worked given the simplicity 🎵🙂
As an RF and radio enthusiast this was an emotional moment - I’m sure some of you will understand 🥲
