What is the state of #danmei fandom on Mastodon? Asking for a friend, because I’m not personally into this specific topic and can’t therefore give informed answers to the questions directed at me 😅
After years of not reading before bedtime, because it felt like work, I have now begun reading "Heaven Official's Blessing" and am now on volume 2.
#Danmei is not a genre with which I am familiar but am settling into it quite nicely. The plot zips along, there is humour + so far the relationship has been slow burn + subtle.
I'm not a fanatic about no screens before bedtime, but am enjoying the peaceful experience of turning pages and reading before going to sleep.
You Huo, his uncle and his cousin are transported into a mysterious 'examination' system, where the questions could easily kill any of the examinees. Breaking the rules to test the system, You Huo gets under the skin of Invigilator 001, but the two can't get away from each other.
Anyway, I finished #GlobalExamination and enjoyed it the whole way through! Infinite flow #danmei with strong MC x strong ML who compete the whole time and like each other a huge amount, a good ensemble cast featuring well-developed female characters, fun puzzles to solve and a happy ending. 😍

Masha, Mirah and I are spending a quiet evening reading 😺 I'm reading the second volume of "Heaven Official's Blessing". I'm trying out the Danmei genre. Quite like the world of Chinese fantasy. It is a good antidote to the horrors of the real world.
So a few of my friend got into #Danmei and are giving me a feel for it. Being a fan of Wuxia / Xianxia I don't need much to get into it, but it still took me some time.
My partner fell in love with Scum Villain and Grandmaster and talked to me about it, but I wasn't sure which one to start. Recently, I heard that Huksy and White Cat ( #erha ?) was pretty good, but also wrecked the reader, so I inst-bought the first novel.
I didn't think I would get this much into the characters, the main boy Mo Ran being an evil asshole really helps? I wish he would do a little more, but at the same time getting to know the cast works for me. I'm halfway done
Also, I've started #SanJiaXianYu (known as Married Thrice to Salted Fish in English) because I want to get back into #danmei, and I'm rather pleased with it. Apparently the protagonists are scheming, crafty assholes, which is more than fine by me. I adore #HuangJinTai, so.

Finished Mo Du a couple of days ago! Not my favorite priest and I really disliked how almost every single trauma victim turned into a homicidal sociopath. The romance was beautiful, at least. #danmei#amreading

From danmei books I own Thousand Autumns is definitely hardest/slowest to read for me.
Political plot is too complicated to read fast but too important overall for world building to just skim over and ignore.
I love the book tho, especially Yan Wushi being... himself 😂
On the other hand, ERHA is amazingly easy to read. Shorter chapters help. Not only I have a lot of good places to take a break but also it totally causes "One More Chapter Syndrome" ❤️ 🥰

Started reading the #danmei novel and I think I fell in love with its translators. Because they created footnotes. Footnotes that kept original Chinese idiomatic and metaphorical expressions. So they chose the closest equivalent for the text itself but if the metaphorical beauty was somehow lost in translation (which I guess is often the case), you can still enjoy it in the footnotes. That shows care and attention to the text. And the language. And the readers :ablobcatnodmeltcry:

After finishing first volume of Thousand Autumns my conclusion is that we shouldn't ask if Yan Wushi would sell us to Satan for one corn chip BUT when exactly it's gonna happen xD
