Came across some real life #Factorio the other day: a conveyor belt taking rubble from a quarry, under a dual carriageway road, then along a pier and onto a ship. We watched it running at full pelt for ages then the load started to get patchy. Someone needs to re-position their electric miners!
Imagine spending countless hours proving it is possible to complete Factorio in a 12x9 world only to find out afterwards that since the Spidertron was added it is actually possible to do it in 11x9
(Spidertrons can stand on top of other buildings and have a large carrying capacity, so you can use them like chests to hold all the items you need to launch the rocket while still having the ability to place buildings on all tiles.)
Been playing #MineClone2 on #MineTest as I'm on a #RPi. So far I suck, I think the beginning game is harder on MineTest then #Minecraft. But It's sill fun.
Is there a Minetest package similar to Minecraft but doesn't try to clone it?
@doctorwhom Similar but not a clone? That's a hard ask.
Do you think it can be helped by first announcing the #gameplay elements that interest you? Meanwhile, proceed with the thought that these games introduce their own sense of community: contributors, players, viewers. They don't necessarily need all that #Minecraft has to offer. So, here you have it: disassemble every game, find the low-level concepts that you enjoy and find them a way into the #sandbox that you're playing now.
#Minetest reveals itself better with this in mind and most things in #ContentDB are pluggable mods anyway. If you're digging #Factorio style, I suggest looking for inspiration with Minetest games like #NodeCore and mods like #Mesecons, #TechAge, #Digilines. If it's something else, play around with mods on ContentDB by opening "Content" tab in Minetest launcher. Wanna have fun and sense of wonder straight away, while being able to invite your friends or meet new people? Look up servers similar to #Archtec.
Just finished a 2 player co-op run of #Factorio with the #AngleBob mod set.
While my friend hasn't played much classic before we still decided to go for the more complex playthrough, and it worked out great.
145 hours to launch the rocket and so much fun refactoring. The mod set is in a really good state, good pacing, lots of options to build big or clever, meaningful differences in approached.
Can recommend! (We tuned off Bob's Greenhouse to make it a bit more challenging /interesting)
Ever played factorio and thought "I wish my factory had a risc-v core"?
Introducing Factorio Yosys!
This is a project of a friend of mine not on mastodon, so all credit to him. He built a full @yosyshq backend for #factorio that can now compile a #riscv core.
The core runs at 1.82 Hz at 60 FPS, and much faster with uncapped framerate.
This was a massive pain to setup. Train brings in oil, it gets stored until it's ready for basic refining where I can now begin converting it until more useful chemicals 😅
Was reaching the limit of my coal mining and thus coal power, so I hastily slapped together this solar array before I start looking into nuclear power. :blobfoxgoogly: #Factorio
I'll play a practice run in peaceful mode. I won't play all the way through but I want to get a feel for the research tree. I'll try to "pretend" biters are a threat and optimize accordingly.
Once I figure it out, I'll switch over to a more dangerous mode of play.
Lately, I've been totally hooked on the game #Factorio. The Factorio Access mod has had some major updates. Almost all of the major systems in the game are now accessible. It is now possible to play through the entire game accessibly, although some items like logistic robots aren't yet accessible. That will be added soon according to the mod developers.
