I’m in Paradise, #California this week to cover the five year anniversary of the #CampFire.

Going by the numbers, the town is about 1/3 of its way back to pre-fire population.

But numbers can’t tell the whole story here.

The people here have persisted in the face of overwhelming and complex grief. And they’re surrounded by reminders of the worst day of their lives.

Every day, hundreds of people used to come to this spot to do their grocery shopping at the Safeway.

Today, it sits like this:
