The Castillo was built of local #coquina #stone, which made the wall much more resistant to cannon fire than other forts of the day, as the coquina was just a cement of sand and shells and gives in on impact with something like a cannonball, preventing wider damage. The #fort never fell in battle, but flew under the flags of 5 governments. #CastilloDeSanMarcos, #StAugustine, #StoneWall, #PalmTree, #FloridaHistory, #Photography, #Photo https://heronfox.pixels.com/featured/side-of-castillo-de-san-marcos-heron-and-fox.html
