My friend that I bought a bunch of equipment off of is itching to swap things out again. He's been trying to convince me to buy a Sequential Pro 3 to swap him for his Prophet Rev2.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. The Rev2 is a pretty great instrument, and the keybed on it is so nice. But I really don't have room for it, and I really don't need to be spending more money on yet another synth to collect dust with the rest of them.
I just want to throw out there again that if you want a straightforward keyboard that feels like a baby grand (keys wise for strength training the fingers) get a Yamaha P-45. It’s awesome and simple. #piano#keyboard#GearSquad#music#musician
How do you know when you messed up enough that you should try again?!? In this video I walk you through a recorded Yamaha CS-15 bass part that I loved...then hated. Spoiler alert: I decide to re-record the part, and show you why it was worth the time.
Hey #musician friends, when I switched servers I lost my short list of folks who'd be up for giving feedback on music works in progress. Mix feedback, vibe checks, that kind of thing.
Somehow I feel like this song really epitomizes 2023 for me. So many times it felt like "you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave" was exactly what I was going through. Looking forward to a much better 2024, happy new year everyone. Really looking forward to some more great discussions this year.
Ok, I’ve finished my Ab / C minor instrumental and posted to Bandcamp. It really feels like Eb major to me now. There is one open string in the key, I discovered, and worked that in. Otherwise Strymon Volante again for the guitar tracks with the bass, drums and piano tracks done in GarageBand. This was loads of fun to create and a wonderful escape. #guitar#GearSquad
Hey #GearSquad - a site I’ve bought from in the past called cheaperpedals.com is closing shop. The owner’s ready for something new.
I ordered three #pedals to put on an old board with a Korg tuner I had lying around. The faux uni-vibe is a blast. I’ve always liked the effect but wasn’t about to pay for a more professional grade one simply for goofing about. This one does fine and even has a picture of Jimi’s face on it.
Sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable to just have a bit of fun, right?
Pre-holiday recording/plugin/gear sales were a big deal for me a few years ago. Maybe I’m past my gear-head days because nothing appeals to me this year in the sales ads.
Did I miss something good? And yes, I’m really curious to know.
@muz4now I think gear snobbery and gear paralysis is simply a symptom of insecurity when it comes to writing and recording.
Use what you have with the time you have to create what you can with the knowledge you have.
enjoy the process, not the gear
Like you (maybe?), I'm looking around for a better home for my original music. Bandcamp is still decent, but after what's happened I feel like I need a backup. Has anyone looked into audio.com? I visit that site and all I can think is, "Looks promising! In 18 months they'll be rolling out AI songs based on all the tracks I've uploaded." 😂
I mean, they say they're "empowering" musicians, but we're already empowered, amirite?
Hey #GearSquad do you all know some good professional music news/publications that would be good to follow to keep a pulse on things? Thanks!! :blobcatcoffee:
Hey #GearSquad, #guitar#pickup question:
Epi Dot 335 pickup upgrade. I think what it has are called "mudbuckers". Nice tone but no sparkle.
Wilkinsons are cheap but okay - I put them on another guitar and was fine with them, but for ten times more (about what I spent on the guitar), I could get Lollar Imperials or other schmancy PAFs.
So how much better are boutique PAFs for good, prickly highs?
#guitar#pedalboard update.
Adding the #compressor to a #daisyChain raised the noise floor, so I bought another used #PP2+ and wired it up.
It still hisses, maybe slightly less, but at least it costs more.
Delay pedal absent while I add a jack for an expression pedal that I hope will work. #GearSquad
Okay my #gearsquad, #music, and #guitar friends, here's something I’ve been kicking around for over a year now. Previous versions got too busy and too messy, so I decided to start from scratch. Thoughts? Is this anything?
I finished my budget upgrade of my budget Yamaha Revstar, and I'm really really pleased. The pickups (Surf 90s) sound great! Bright top end, thumping low end in the neck position, super articulate, all the things you want out of a P90-esque pickup.
And the trem is kind of mind blowing. There's no slack in the arm, the vibrato is very smooth, and tuning stability is no problem at all (also upgraded to a roller bridge)
#gearsquad, GFS pickups are genuinely good sounding. Didn’t know what to expect for the price, but these are a huge improvement over the humbuckers that came in my Yamaha
