This is seriously the last time I'm taking an bus. As usual, I'm desperate for a piss, because for an 8 hour bus ride they only schedule 2 stops where passengers can go to the toilet.

We stop at Turangi, right outside the i-Site, and I ask the driver if I can quickly use the toilet. He grumps at me in his "papers please, comrade" accent, "No! Go back to the bus". No basic courtesy. No information about when we'll next be able to use the toilet.

Fuck this shit.

is everything we were told competition would protect us from when it was privatized. It's long past time that - as with the trains - the privatisation experiment with long distance buses was declared a failure, and InterCity re-nationalized.

Pomysł: wprowadźmy zakaz prowadzenia ruchu pociągów po szlakach jednotorowych. Zgaduję, że wówczas dla PKP PLK (spółki powstałej w ramach pionowego podziału kolei, w którym najwyraźniej nie przeszkadza, że cały pion należy do jednej grupy kapitałowej, i jest skorumpowany do cna), nagle okaże się opłacalnym budowa drugiego toru na trasach takich jak Poznań - Kołobrzeg.

A nawet jeśli nie, to będzie mniej źródeł lawinowych opóźnień.

Gestern fuhr zum letzten mal ein als Sonderfahrt mit Drehfalttüren, Übersetzfenstern und dem letzten , zum Teil aus alten Beständen. Es geht nun ab ins DB Museum....

Am 12.06.1988 ist der " ", der spätere ICE-V, mit einer Publikumsfahrt zwischen und unterwegs und passiert gerade den Bahnhof . Anlass ist die Internationale Verkehrsausstellung in Hamburg.
Damit das Licht auf den ganzen Zug fällt, verzichtete ich auf das komplett sichtbare Stellwerk.

Last week at 🇦🇹 Hbf: train to 🇭🇷 via 🇸🇮 and 🇭🇷. Some carriages have got opening windows and come with cosy compartments and comfy seats. A few years back, this train, named “Sava”, included through cars from 🇩🇪 to 🇷🇸.

La -de-Fonds🇨🇭to on a regional express service in June 2018: the push-pull trainset is in full “ livery” - a popular cookie brand in Switzerland. The cars are of the “EW III” type, originally built for the cross-country in the 1970s - the best domestic trains back then: they came with air condition even for passengers is 2nd class.

Here's a fun fact about travelling from to .

Regular trains take roughly 5 hours and 30 minutes, and cost 46,40 PLN.

The fastest trains take roughly 5 hours (slower: 5 h 40 min) and cost 49,70 PLN (2nd class).

However, on weekends there's an extra PolRegio "ORKAN" train that takes 4 hours and 20 minutes (!), and costs 46,20 PLN. The trick is to skip Główny.

Time for a 🧵 for the 2023 with changes announced recently or earlier&called to mind again.

Let's start with a chapter of history: The IC 118-119 was introduced in 2003, at this time the only through service between 🇦🇹 and 🇩🇪 running via , and .

From 11 June the loco-hauled service will be replaced by newer ICE4 sets. Timings of ICE 118-119 stay the same (no stops in Aulendorf and Göppingen anymore).

IC 119 pulled by an ÖBB 1016 loco and passing Aulendorf (2023).

New direct services are announced between 🇩🇪 and 🇳🇱 starting from the end of 2024, running in the morning, evening and on weekends. An hourly service is projected from 2031.

…which raises the question whether seat reservations are really mandatory here in French (IC) trains (its written in train, but the app is contradictory🫠🫠 and apparently there were passengers in there without one).

The ¹ there just says “Reservations are mandatory for trains in Normandy.”, which does not apply.
