Weird to open the cesspool that is and find someone actually doing good for a change.

Saw a complaint about how LinkedIn recently stopped reporting the exact number of applicants for a given role after 99, just showing "over 100."

I agree; saying "over 100 applicants" is not helpful at all. It should really say, "Move on, you're wasting your time."

Great win for @edri's joint #DSA complaint with @Freiheitsrechte, @bitsoffreedom and @globalwitness:

#LinkedIn will deprecate its intrusive ad targeting based on sensitive personal data[1] of its users in Europe.

While the company did of course not admit their practice was in breach of Art. 26 DSA, the fact that they stop it speaks for itself.

I entered random words/phrases from a load of posts into an online text shuffler, clicked shuffle a couple of times, then picked a random office image from a free image library. And now I'm pretty sure that many of the sponsored posts must be bots. Either that or I should go into business consultancy myself.

The next cloud service I'm leaving will be most likely .

Besides their horrible UX, it doesn't work in my Firefox any more. Can't send any messages. Can't close message dialoge popups. 🤷

Since it annoys with lots of and did not provide me any benefit at all so far (not a single job opportunity for months! even when I enabled all job search features), it will be an easy good bye for me.

@tanepiper Oh, THAT’S what that means? No freaking way, LinkedIn.

(Context: I recently logged back in to LinkedIn after five years away to do some favours for friends, and then I had to update everything and re-familiarise myself with the thing. I was wondering what verification meant)

tanepiper,
@tanepiper@tane.codes avatar

@katiefenn They do have email verification that you work at a company (which they reconfirm every 6 months it seems) - but this is a whole new level.

Fuck off, Tina Hamilton. “I don't want you to exploit my likeness for marketing purposes" isn't a weird thing for employees to ask. It's definitely not a warning sign that they secretly have a whole second career they're trying to hide. 🙄

I wish you could do job searches with lots of filters like you can for houses (see realtor.ca for example):

  • remote only
  • flexible/unlimited PTO
  • sane sick leave
  • salary
  • benefits

Instead we've got dumb keyword searches and "remote" jobs that are actually "hybrid" in stupidly expensive or distant places.

amyworrall,
@amyworrall@mastodon.social avatar

@Taffer I would want to exclude “unlimited" PTO. It's only ever there to guilt trip you into taking less. I want an actual number of days, and I'll take that exact number!
