Note to self:

Do not try to pull more than the rated current from a cheap Chinese Solar Charge controller's USB output.

Even if it's just 60mA...

@isziaui @bleeptrack: Hey, cool, two other owners in the Fediverse!

Here's mine, nicknamed "ObriEL" and old enough to be born as .

Unfortunately the came out when I tried to figure out why it doesn't charge. 😒 (Took it over without documentation on any of the modifications from the legacy of a late friend, @Obri, hence also its nickname. So in case anyone knows CityEL repair shops in Switzerland accepting CityELs of unknown state…)

In working with my lights on my , I may have wired the +5V to the wrong pin on the light strip. Some may have been released. There was only one witness and he’s not talking. 😜

Oh noes! Something is wrong with my 23 year old . The last couple of times I’ve used it, I’ve noticed a few drops of oil have leaked from the motor, and I’m pretty sure we’re heading towards a situation where the that makes it run could get out.
Does anyone have experience in getting them serviced or repaired, or am I - gulp - going to have to save for a new one? I use it maybe once a month at the moment, but I’d really miss it.

I’m quite excited about this progress. An awesome meld of , , and the 12ft skeleton. Planning to use this to program routines, but maybe also for live interactions!

jerryhjones,

Quick way to let out the magic smoke. Guess I shouldn’t hook up electronics before coffee.

jerryhjones,

Can confirm - that 6.3v Cap will NOT support 120v. Just cross that off the testing list.

I just scored an apparently-working Z80 CP/M system (Xerox 820) at an estate sale. The computer lives inside the monitor, plus there's a keyboard & HUGE two 8" disk drives. One of the floppies will boot it to an "A>" CP/M command prompt. What in the world will I do with it?

stylus,

after I had it on for 20 or 30 minutes, it let out the magic smoke from an X-class capacitor on the PSU board.

I found some info from someone who had a very similar failure and positively identified the failed capacitor (mine was unidentifiable): http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/Xerox/820-II.html
