What obligation do have to operate at the same scale as or even outperform their venture capital funded corporate counterparts? If a does not succeed in having a similar reach as major corporations with comparable features, should it be considered "low quality" or are there other standards of success worth considering?

How exactly do you define decentralised solutions though?

Aren't coops like and
@mirlo, or sites just that? (Admittedly without federation)

, , and solutions usually won't be able to compete with big businesses when it comes to price and/or convenience, just like your community supported farm can't compete with Aldi.

It's really down to you as consumer to decide what is more important to you, convenience or doing what's right.

Listening to podcasts and being reminded that we need solutions for 'adblocking' in-stream-audio. Here's looking at you Vox and The Verge. I think the method that SponsorBlock is using is probably the right direction. Aware of any interesting projects in this area?

Ooh, I like that idea a lot - maybe some kind of DIY Bluetooth foot pedal?

Curious, I just did a quick web search and came across this simple tutorial: https://www.opensongapp.com/user-manual/controls/foot-pedals

Looks like it's really easy to transmit media keys, although I've never actually tried a keyboard with media keys on my phone to see if it works with media players.

I might have to have a go at it on a rainy afternoon - having Next/Prev and Play/Pause foot controlled wirelessly would be kind of neat! 🤔

    @jaseg Maybe I should just cut my losses and get a new controller. 🤔

    It came bundled with a 2x80W panel, and always seemed to underperform compared to one of the super-cheapo controllers I've used before, even though it has all fancy-pants XT60 connectors rather than the usual screw terminals.

    Anyway, I guess there's not much point in replacing the chip - I've definitely got more trustworthy USB outlets that I can use instead...
