I learned some days ago how gets trapped inside enclosures used for when exposed to daily cycles of heat and cold.

The cold creates lower pressure inside. If that overpowers the seals, then outside air gets sucked in, carrying moisture. This extra moisture can condense inside and accumulate at the bottom.

In the next warm part of the cycle, if some air is expelled because of the higher pressure, that moisture is not carried out because it is in a liquid state.🧵

Current live in (significantly ABOVE critical, and WAY ABOVE average, i.e. very good.. 83% fuel moisture, what you typically see in February).

Improvised wood moisture meter (resistive). Multimeter and two nails at 31.75mm distance.

You don't even need a lookup table for this result: Very fucking moist!

Either I mixed this is up with the stuff I cut this summer or it's not drying well at all in the garden shed even though it gets super warm in there. Probably got mixed up 😕

It doesn't want to split like this. Oh well, lets give it a few more years.

1/34 This started out as a much shorter thread about a related topic, but Something Happened and now it's a #LifeHack #instructional thread on keeping your house comfortable and saving #money and the #environment, through the magic of air movement. It's also timely, what with it being the start of the northern-hemisphere summer and southern-hemisphere winter.

cazabon,

5/34 Another one doesn't get as much attention as some of those do. It's this: your home's air will feel more at a given temperature and humidity if it's moving.

When , air movement keeps the air from stratifying, leaving a cold layer near the floor that makes your feet feel like they're freezing.

When cooling, it also does that, but in addition, moving air is better at evaporating from your , which increases the cooling effect of that .
