This Neil Armstrong of birds (or perhaps, Avian Amelia Earhart?) crossed the Rocky Mountains solo, the first Field Sparrow to be spotted in California many years, a humble-looking but intrepid half-ounce explorer far from its usual habitat. A single 2-minute sighting in Griffith Park drew birders from near and far trying to see it again, so far to no avail.

In case you missed my brag & boast about our Limpkins at Fontainebleau State Park on the northshore of New Orleans. They were easily visible around the fish pond on Friday morning, as was the scatter of their discarded apple snails.
