Here's yesterday's talk "Creative Coding in #OPENRNDR" at the #Kotlin Conf 2024. The first half show work by Edwin (principal developer of the framework) and the RNDR team.
The second part, starting at 6:32:25 (25 min. long), live codes a poster with two graphic layers and one with text.
𝘚𝘶𝘣𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘐𝘯 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘴 is a series of paintings created with a robotic pen plotter. The robot follows instructions produced by a generative algorithm that creates a unique output each time it runs. Multiple sine wave oscillation functions, each with differing periods and amplitudes, combine to alter the size and orientation of hundreds of polygons to create a layered organic form.
While working on this series, I thought about all of the hidden topologies that shape our lives; trying to put form to the formless. The curvature of a friendship, the boundaries of desire, the distance between aspirations.
I've been using #Processing's Catmul-Rom "curve vertex" for maybe 10 years now and I still manager to get it wrong and get frustraded 🤡 #CreativeCoding
#PenPlotter maintenance today. My HP 7585B stopped responding over RS-232. Diagnostics revealed a problem with the interface card. Luckily I have a spare machine that can donate a new working card!
And it works! Here’s a video of the HP 7585B #PenPlotter plotting a big arc Truchet tile design using three colors (yellow, cyan, and magenta) on 11x15 watercolor. Total time 1h15m.
Video montage of a HP 7585 #PenPlotter plotting a design of large concentric arcs broken up by squares in cyan, yellow, and magenta. It performs tool changes to swap pens automatically.
