Another local native plant portrait with code. This time of Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus). I left it a bit expressively weird, because... personality.

I think I should make a little series of botanical sketches (in my chosen medium of code, of course) of local native plants. Maybe I'll set them into a pattern later.

Trout lily (Erythronium americanum).

@asleepyfrog
I think I'll try skunk cabbage or mayapples, or maybe bloodroot next.

    I quite liked how this macro photo I snapped of a small mullberry blossom came out.

    Hope I'm not disappointing you too much to say that while I do have a decent SLR, this was taken with my iphone and a clip-on macro lens. Sometimes if you keep your eyes open, you just see the shot and take it 🤷

    Well, I won’t claim 100% confidence but I think the bokeh is an optical effect. With the clip on macro lenses, most the focusing was achieved with physically moving the camera close and further away. Again, just an educated guess, but based on what I was seeing as I took the photo.

    BloomScrolling.

    It's scrolling! Still want to work on the background pattern, as the results are uneven at times. Overall pretty pleased with it.

    Code/ endless scroll at : https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2225296

    Scrolling floral pattern, not unlike a william morris wallpaper. Coded art.

    Got myself a laser engraver a while back and finally got around to setting it up and dialling in some settings for card stock, wood, and acrylic.
    Did a test run with an old piece I did for the Cricut.

    I don't usually like to post anything this WIP and these are only part of the final design I have in mind, but I'm really finding the sort of painterly effects I'm getting fairly charming here.

    Dahlia-esque flower leaning into left. Code generated. Different palette

    @AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

    Thanks! me too! If all goes according to plan, it'll eventually be part of a William Morris-esque design, that will endlessly scroll variations . 🤞

    @artcollisions
    Next some swirling foliage pattern behind these, then, they start scrolling right word, with new variations endlessly and seamlessly scrolling into place. I mean, in theory, in my imagination. We'll see how it turns out.

    Taking these shapes from concept to code took me far longer then it probably should have. One of those sketches that take a lot of thought and effort to try and look effortless.
