Fascinating article on how poor dental health is linked to heart disease, dementia, respiratory diseases and colon cancer.

Particularly relevant in the UK, where access to NHS dentists is becoming nigh on impossible in many areas. As always the poorest suffer the most.

Anyone who knew me as a kid might not believe it, but I really take care of my teeth and have done for many years with increasing commitment! But like many others, I've been avoiding basic dental checkups mostly because in my case I'm not entirely convinced my particular dentist will implement #Covid safety precautions. Dental treatment is one of those maskless inevitabilities where the least they can do is mask up as staff and use air filtration. I'm not assured this is the case at my default dental practice. If anyone in #Sheffield, #SouthYorkshire or further afield in #NorthernEngland are aware of any #dentists that implement cautionary measures, do let me know. As an NHS patient, I'm even begrudgingly willing to pay for private care if I can afford it in order to avoid getting Covid. Thanks! #AskFedi #Covid19 #CovidIsNotOver

I lost a filling yesterday. It's like the 3rd time i've lost this one. It's a front tooth so every dentist is like "that'll be hard to attach" which makes sense but at the same time i'm like "you know, 'joinery' is a thing right? Carpenters figured this shit out how to attach two things without glue literally thousands of years ago, and our tools are WAY better now."

Are there any out there who can explain to me why joinery techniques aren't a thing with fillings?

My dentist randomly sends me an SMS once a year with an appointment date and expects me to either turn up or cancel the appointment that I never requested anyway.

I usually turn up. Only this time, I forgot they ever sent me the SMS and I missed the appointment. Now they are invoicing me for that appointment.

I don't have a contract with them; are they allowed to do that? Just randomly message you and then invoice you for a service you never requested or used?

With the relaxation of the mitigation requirements & protocols it looks like many are following suit & walking away from precautions they spent time, effort & money to put into place.

So previously Ontario was best in class for . Now, apparently no longer.

Looking for a in the if you know of any still maintaining precautions especially N95, room isolation & HEPA.

My son's dentist office called to schedule an appointment. He asked how much it would cost and realized it would be cheaper to do it in Spain, inclusive of airfare, food and renting an apt. for a week.

@daltux@ayom.media avatar

@StillIRise1963 I have no idea of the values there (could you say?), but I guess here in , very crowded of , their services are probably inexpensive on an international comparison.

It is maybe around USD 50 for fixing a cavity.
