You know what's a great, violent, focussed, small-scale action film that you should definitely see if you haven't already?

DREDD.

The genius of (2012) becomes clear when you realise Ol' Stoney Face is deliberately playing the role of grumpy examiner to Anderson. He knows from the start she's got what it takes, but he acts like he's doubtful or demands she defends her actions just to see how she reacts and responds.

This is a very self-aware Dredd, one who is very much the ruthless lawman of the future, but who also understands he needs to wear a mask, that he's playing a role, of sorts. That helmet never comes off.
