Please don’t hop into my replies to tell me the article I linked is paywalled. I know that it’s paywalled. I know because I pay for a lot of the journalism I consume. Maybe the link I shared will be one of your free monthly articles. Maybe not. The idea that journalism isn’t worth money is everywhere, but it seems particularly salient on Mastodon, to a point of moral superiority for refusing to pay for or engage with an outlet that dare ask for money. Just a very weird worldview.
I #RageQuit Mastodon a month or two after joining it in 2018 because I got so exasperated dealing with knee-jerk Marxists.
That said, while being rude and devaluing journalism isn't ok, the mastodon crowd does seem to veer left a bit, if only because the rest of the country I'm in has veered so crazy hard right.
