📣 I launched my first newsletter! It's free and I'll be using it to send a little email note any time I publish a blog post, publication, talk, or project on my #quarto site.
🔥 Thrilled to receive the MSCA Fellowship for my project, PRISM🔥
Over the next two years, I'll be based at the University of Münster, collaborating with Hanna Meyer to incorporate understanding of spatial patterns into machine learning algorithms.
Since I've recently quit my job, I've enabled github sponsors now. Without any expectations, let's see if I can make a living as an #rstats#rspatial#whateverspatial opensource developer 🤔
Thanks to inspiration by @kylebarron I am currently deep diving into #deckgl and #geoarrow to enhance the geo-spatial visualisation toolkit available in #rstats#rspatial...
Request for testing/comment: can any #rstats users out there give the #wip {styler.equals} package a spin and kick its metaphorical tires 🚲 ? Install with remotes::install_github("robinlovelace/styler.equals") and see more at https://github.com/Robinlovelace/styler.equals Especially for those who prefer typing = over <- due to laziness or any other reason! Not intending to start a flame war 🔥 arrows are great too ⬅️ Any comments/suggestions welcome 🙏 #rspatial#DataScience#style
🌱 The vectormetrics package calculates landscape and shape metrics for vector layers.
It reimplements the most common landscape metrics and adds many new metrics related to the shape of polygons. 🌱
From {tidycensus} creator Kyle Walker: “My webinar Analyzing 2020 Decennial US Census Data in #rstats is now on YouTube!
In the 3-hour webinar, you'll learn about:
📈 Available datasets in the 2020 US Census, and how to access and use them in R;
📈 How to explore decennial US Census data with tidyverse tools;
📈 Using interactive maps to explore US Census data;
📈 Advanced topics like working with detailed DHC-A data and analyzing change over time“ 1/2
From {tidycensus} creator Kyle Walker cont.: “All the webinar resources are available on GitHub here, along with a @Posit Cloud link where you can run the code without installing R yourselves:” 2/2
Wanting to get started with #rspatial for the geosciences? Attending #EGU24?
Then come and join the "Intro to R for the Geosciences" short course on April 16th, 7PM.
#RSpatial / #GIS / #GISChat folks based in the UK - what free/affordable geocoding APIs do you find prefer to use or recommend? I've tried quite a few but am keen to learn of other potential options. Bonus points if it's available via the excellent {tidygeocoder}.
#rstats#rspatial and other #geospatial folks, I am pleased to announce the {centerline} package! It's a small but powerful tool that can find a centerline of closed polygons.
It has both {terra} and {sf} support and works pretty well, as far as its maintainer (i.e., me) sees. The very first devel version is out, and I'm curious to hear any feedback. Its even doesn't have any logo yet https://github.com/atsyplenkov/centerline
Any #rspatial folks out there who use the {targets} package?
@njtierney and I have started working on the {geotargets} package, which hopefully will make it easier to use {targets} with packages like {terra}, {sf}, {stars}, etc. We would love your input! What are the current pain points? How have you solved them in your own work?
Besides following hashtags, such as #GISChat, #QGIS, #FOSS4G, and #OSGeo, curating good lists is probably the best way to stay up to date with geospatial developments. To get you started (or to potentially enrich your existing lists), I thought I'd share my #Geospatial and #SpatialDataScience lists with you.
R terra is like freaking black magic. Just rasterized 1496388 line features (extracted from OSM) in less than 14 seconds 🤯 The size of the reference raster 14177x14674, the whole state of Jalisco (80k km²) at a pixel size of 30 meters. Actually this is rasterizing AND writing the output geotiff with deflate compression. #rspatial#terra
