Is there a calculator to let people calculate actual cost per mile to drive a given car, accounting for actual purchase price, insurance, gas prices, parking costs, and length of time one has owned car? Trying to see just how much I’m saving with an ebike. #bike#cycling#biketooter#ebike#seabikes#cars@TheWarOnCars@seabikeblog
Join my Cascade Bicycle Club free group ride, SeaTac Airport Loop, this Saturday, May 18 at 10 am!
This 20 mile loop starts from North SeaTac Park and explores SeaTac, Des Moines, & new segments of the Lake to Sound Trail. Afterwards, join me for lunch at Spice Bridge in Tukwila.
I didn’t realize it was National Train Day, but it was a great day for a Cascade Bicycle Club group ride to visit every light rail station on Sound Transit’s 2 Line now that it’s in operation! We were even able to use a couple of recently opened bike connections, too #SEAbikes#2Line#PNW#Seattle#Bellevue#Redmond#BikeTransit#BikeTooter
1/2 Did route-testing on Eastside, & I saw that the Mercer Slough Trail has finally reopened! Now, there’s easy access to the South Bellevue light rail station from the I-90/Mountains to Sound Trail without needing to detour through a neighborhood. Quick tip: follow the asphalt #SEAbikes#Seattle#Bellevue#BikeTooter#BikeTransit#PNW

I am a very proud parent right now because my kiddo biked herself with me riding nearby to school, locked it herself and then when I came to pickup she wanted to pick the route home — and she picked a decent one and knew where she was going just fine. I wish there were actual bike lanes or trails for more of it because people in cars sometimes behave poorly, but she’s pretty smart and has been walking to/from school fine for a bit. #SeaBikes#bikes
Launch of 2 line train in Bellevue / Redmond #seattle sat. was a huge hit with transit-obsessed kiddo. Lego model of train! Bouncy castle decorated like train! Plenty of swag. Cargo ebike over 520 bridge to get there (until they connect it over the lake). #seabikes#train#BikeTooter#bike#PublicTransport#urbanism
I’m zooming down a 3 block, 1 way (1 lane) neighborhood arterial hill w/a sharrow, along the sharrow line (ie in traffic). Speed limit is 25 (and several people have “20 is plenty” signs on lawns). I’m going btw 20-27 (speeding up as I go down hill). There’s a car behind me. When we get to bottom, and before he turns the opposite direction, he says out his window, exasperated, you need to let people pass. Do I need to? #BikeTooter#cycling#seabikes#bike@seabikeblog
Nothing like the pleasure of seeing my tiny (~30lb) 5 year old blaze around the park having newly mastered the Woom 2 pedal bike. Edmonds civic center park, great for this purpose! #seabikes#seattle#pnw#biketooter#bike#cycling
Another weekend ride around the north end of Lake Washington. This time the 520 trail was open, so no added kilometers for me. A good ride! (Though they are small in the photo, the cormorants look great.) #bike#cycling#SEAbikes#seattle#cormorants
It's been 18 months since I got an e-bike and I just recently purchased my first "acoustic bike" - a 1986 Shogun road bike from a neighbor on Craigslist!
I had a great time doing the lake Washington loop yesterday but I totally wasn't expecting the 520 bridge to be closed...
Ended up having to extend my ride to i90 - it was the longest bike ride of my life!
Feeling very accomplished with myself but mostly just sore beyond belief
Another weekend ride around part of Lake Washington. This time, I was surprised to find the 520 bridge closed to bikes, so I had to extend the ride about 50%, making it the longest ride I've done in a while. Strava says I burned 1338 calories! (The picture looks very similar to the one I took last weekend, but if you look closely you'll see the cormorants are all facing the opposite direction.) #bike#cycling#seattle#SEAbikes
Bit of a design fail when I choose to avoid the “healthy street” intended for bikes because there are so many speed bumps to slow down cars (without cutouts for bikes) and go for the parallel no speed bump side street instead. For local folks (1st ave north of 85th in Greenwood—I’ve been diverting to 2nd instead). #seabikes#bike#biketooter#cycling
