Have you ever wanted to visit SHIRO!'s website with your actual Saturn's NetLink browser? Now you can! Just head to http://shiro.reye.me and check out my story on how it came together:
I talked about how fighting games were one of the genres that made me jump from the PSone towards the Saturn in 1997 and how it ended up not only being my favourite system that generation but overall as well.
This video is a great example of the wealth of fighting games released on Saturn, but also the Dreamcast.
As I've been diving deep into fight games again for nearly 2 weeks now, I was getting nostalgic about how they were a big part of me getting a Sega Saturn in 1997.
I had Street Fighter Alpha 1 on PSone as it came out, same with Darkstalkers, Toshinden and Star Gladiator.
But I started seeing how there was a much bigger selection of them on the Saturn, not to mention better versions of the 2D games.
Not content to only improve various shortcomings of the Saturn version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Meduza Team updated their patch to include English text and voices! Read about it in my story:
Pseudo Saturn Kai, the software used to play backup discs on real Saturn hardware, just got a massive update — including a version that runs on the Satiator ODE! Get all the details in my SHIRO! colleague PandaMonium's story:
Christmas NiGHTS sure is intensely christmassy. It is also extremely enjoyable. If you never owned a #segasaturn, I recommend chasing down this Christmas demo, setting up a nice CRT emulation on your favorite emulator (Beetle Saturn in Retroarch works nicely) and having a good ol' time. It's worth cheating a bit with the date to set it to 24th or 25th of December if you want the full experience.
Turns out there was a bunch of Christmas content that I missed out on from some of my favorite games like Sonic Adventure
and Sonic Adventure 2 that was only available on the Dreamcast but not in the GameCube ports of the same games.
Christmas Eve wouldn't be the same without Takenobu Mitsuyoshi singing Burning Hearts Honoo no ANGEL from Burning Rangers on Sega Saturn, dressed as Santa Clause, fighting his own beard.
