"Lola" is a 1970 song by the English rock band the Kinks
It details a romantic encounter between a young man and a possible crossdresser or #transwoman whom he meets in a club
He is confused towards Lola, yet he remains infatuated with her
"Lola" was a top ten hit in the UK and the US and called "the first significantly blatant gay-rock ballad"
Remarkable that this song came out in 1970, when #LGBTQ people were discriminated and criminalised
What’s this: a song that tells a story in the lyrics? A great theme #StorySong from @HeatherInNZ and thanks to @Kitty for hosting.
I’ve been on a journey of late, remembering music from my late teens.
And one album that had a massive impact on me was Enigma and The Cross of Changes.
And I think Silent Warrior tells a great (and sad) story.
Can’t wait to get home and see everyone’s choices!
One of my favorite traditional songs as performed by the Grateful Dead. Probably well unknown for most people these days (so I'm going to loophole the rules). I picked 1977 because that was a great year for the Dead... ;>)
In the early 13th century Hadmar III and Heinrich III formed the infamous "Hounds of Kuenring" who were robber nights and would raid ships along the Danube.
Here is an epic #HeavyMetal song that tells their story:
#TuneTuesday#StorySong John Doyle is just superb for both guitar work and story songs. If this suits your tastes, fill yer boots with the songs from this house concert. And anything else of his you come across, like his work with Michael McGoldrick and John McCusker :)
I think it's particularly fortuitous that this week's theme for #TuneTuesday is #StorySong, as it is Martin Carthy's birthday today, and he is a great performer and interpreter of the folk songs of the islands of Britain and Ireland. Here's one such song where he tells the tale of an ill-fated voyage to Norway.
You nearly got King Diamond or Nick Cave, and very nearly got Legendarium, but I'm supposed to be writing, so I'm going to stop overthinking this again.
Today's #TuneTuesday topic is #StorySong and I think a pretty classic story would be:
"The Odyssey" (classic epic by Homer) as interpreted by Symphony X
