@rzeta0 I would recommend browsing the local timeline at typo.social where you'll find plenty of good stuff, and no doubt familiar faces from twitter: https://typo.social/public/local
Inspired by the story of the Geometric sans, it has optical sizes, a wide weight range, and a lot of fun alternates that reference different eras in the genre.
@deshipu@orsinium So your problem is that, unlike some other programming languages like #Scala where you can have an object with the same name as a #type (and in fact Scala has some extra rules for implicits resolutions for companion objects), #Python types are essentially objects.
I think that is a feature, not a bug, as it allows to have #dependentType
Today I started sending out emails to some friends asking if they’d like to participate in a new, print-based, #type-focused project, and several of them replied immediately — all with a “yes”.
I’m taking a moment to appreciate this, as it’s at this precise point that something transforms from an idea into a project, and up until now I don’t think I’ve ever really appreciated that.
All is fine until I get to the part "Make your entity searchable". I don't really understand what I'm supposed to put in place of their MusicCatalog.shared.albums.
@basile Alright, thanks :) But there must be something we're missing, since when I try to conform Word to AppEntity, if I don't specify a query, I get the error Type 'Word' does not conform to protocol 'AppEntity'. When I use the suggested fix (Do you want to add protocol stubs?), it puts in typealias DefaultQuery = <#type#> 🤔
Anyone have #type suggestions for a nice contrasty, Optima-like, but not Monotype-owned, font, preferably available from @fontstand ??? I have a new project in the #graphicDesign pipeline for an austere group, all navies and beiges. Something like that would be lovely
I have a large multinational client who commissioned their own typeface. It's nice, solid, with lots of characters. Then the design spec says it should always be used with tracking set at -10 and none of its ligatures.
🤷♂️ #type#design#graphicDesign
Does anyone have a nice landscape photo of some lead type, in a drawer or set for printing, that I could use in an article at bl.ag about lead-based paints?
My email is sam@bl.ag, or I can download from a reply on here if Mastodon doesn't compress things too much...

On the 40th anniversary of a 1983 working seminar, “The Computer and the Hand in Type Design.” Stanford hosted another seminal typographic event: “Face/Interface: Global Type Design and Human-Computer Interaction” organized by @tsmullaney and colleagues. Chuck Bigelow was keynote speaker …
I actually took drafting classes in school (middle school and college) and there were no computers, just a big old desk, paper, t-squares and other tools.
I'm really tempted to 3D print or lasercut a lettering guide and try using it.
It’s a fine line between a healthy obsession, and toxicity. Between frustration, drive, spite, desperation, and apathy. Between giving up, falling apart, figuring it out, breaking through, and continually spinning. Relapse, recovery, and sobriety, one or all of the above I’m told comes into play. But, maybe that’s just me...
