Do #torrent and #webtorrent overlap at all?
Is there a torrent client that can seed both? I've seen a couple of unresolved issues on clients like qbittorrent, but I'm wondering if there's one people use.
Same question, but also for the tracker side, is there tracker software that both clients can talk to?
What if we had an #ActivityPub federated app to take care of the social aspects of serving packages from self-hosted registries? And used a mechanism like #WebTorrent which #Peertube also uses, to distribute the packages?
@NiemPseu@apps storage management is crucial for video sharing, and #peertube addresses it by adding new kind of p2p with #webtorrent . Eventually videos are stored in instances, and the limits depend on instances, like all in #fediverse. So you would not find these details on the developer site.
👋 Hello #fediverse! I'm going into a meeting at 4ET to talk about our newsroom's social media options.
If you think our station and other #NPR stations should have a Mastodon server or a broader presence in the #fediverse, pls boost this post. If you have thoughts, please reply, I want to hear them!
When I first found out PeerTube was using WebTorrent, I was excited by the possibility that it could play videos from a normal BitTorrent swarm. That way, video creators could store their videos on a few home computers instead of expensive S3 "cloud" storage. Turned out there were some difficulties in getting BT clients to add enough support for WebTorrent to make that work. I haven't checked for any progress on that for a while.
