Interesting, there's a winery in Camarillo (grapes from Santa Barbara). https://www.independent.com/2024/05/15/winemaker-dusty-nabors-powerful-pursuit-of-every-passion/

@TiciaVerveer This is a fascinating paper, thanks for posting!

One of the things we do a LOT of in winemaking is racking. Racking is where you siphon the clear wine off of the solids that settle out at the bottom of the container. Also if you do small lots, you are often using glass carboys. A 5 gallon one (popular size) weighs about 50 pounds when full. You can do this with a pump, but a more gentle gravity feed is preferred. The problem comes from having to pick up the 50 pound container to put it on the counter to rack, and the expensive chiropractic bills that follow :-). Enter our latest hack, the carboy hoist.

All of our stuff, big and small, is on rollers so we can move it around. In this case, you roll the carboy over to the hoist, slide it onto the lift platform, and then hoist it up. Then flip up the support shelf and you are in a position to rack the carboy without wrecking your back.

Tomato wine, of all things.

It's got an unusual smell to it, which is...kind of vaguely tomato-ish? Nothing overpowering.

In fact, that's the theme of this wine. It's exceptionally mild, even though I bottled it only yesterday (this is the leftovers). No harshness at all, but no really dominant taste either. Perhaps once it's aged a bit it'll gain some character.

Do you know of a winemaking consultant / enologist?

I am interested in their services for a new project which involves the design and construction of a new winery.

Your kind boost is appreciated. 🙏

I've changed servers due to technical issues and am reposting my introduction, as none of my posts migrated 🙁

Good afternoon everyone! I am new to Mastadon and prefer the tusk to the musk. I am an artist who works primarily in clay and specialize in raku pottery and explore mythology and nature in my work. Some of my other interests include:
