Some years back, I decided I was going to learn to draw. I had never been able to draw, so I started with just copying existing images. I drew them the same way I do archaeological field drawings: using a grid and drawing where the thing I want to draw intersects with the grid. (cont.)

My brother is an artist, and when he looks at his early drawings, he gets super embarrassed cuz "they're so bad," meanwhile, they're very excellent.
So I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years, you take a look back at these drawings and feel a similar ways.
(I'm not trying to imply they're bad!)

I read an interview with the singer of a band I like, and when asked about how he felt about the album, he said that all he hears are mistakes, and things he wished he had done differently. I thought it was a really solid album!
So I imagine it's a similar feeling for artists. You may always consider yourself something of a beginner, always striving to do better, meanwhile you do amazing work.
But those stars! Those paintings are awesome too!
(I dig the Snorlax hoodie, by the way)

I don't know Sonata Arctica and I didn't know about their existence until @Dad_Wood tooted about them.

Judging from the name and the artwork I expected Nightwish style melodic/symphonic metal from Finland 🇫🇮

Turns out the latter was correct, and for the other stuff?

Well, I guess I need to find out, and there is only one way to do this properly... 🤘

The interesting thing about Sonata Arctica is how much they change over the course of their albums. They start off as very power metal, but evolve in a way that can range from pleasing to deeply disappointing...I look forward to hearing your thoughts on their other albums!

Last night I had a nightmare. I don't know what it wasn't about but I remember that I was hoping in my dream that if I scream loud enough my wife would wake me up. And it worked, that weird noises I was able to croak out woke her up and she released me of my nigthmare.

I had this before. Shortly after my son was born I was convinced there was something in our house that wants to choke me in my dreams.

Dreams, huh?

I had a dream once where I was on a floating platform and it was inside a big, white, bright cathedral type place. Slowly the light faded and things were falling down, including the other floating platforms. Somehow I knew that that was what dying was, and I was certain I was dying in my sleep. eventually my platform fell just as everything went black. I had a final surge of fear and anxiety the moment before I died, and that is when I woke up.
