One thing I wish did was post a federated announcement whenever I went live. Right now I have to post things manually just like I did on Twitch which sort of defeats the purpose.

"But you can just create a new live video every time you go live and it will federate that" Do you know what a pain in the ass that is?

@Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

@zalasur Hi,

I'm surprised because peertube should send an activity about your live to remote servers. Can you provide your live URL?

Chocobozzz,
@Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

@zalasur Hum I think it's because Mastodon doesn't support Update activities on Video, and so it won't update the Note that was previously created on first livestream.

Facebook/Meta starts talking about the "Extend" phase of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish as predicted:

"“You could imagine an extension to the protocol eventually — of saying like, ‘I want to support micropayments,’ or … like, ‘hey, feel free to show me ads, if that supports you.’ Kind of like a way for you to self-label or self-opt-in. That would be great,”

@thelinuxEXP @fabio @Techaltar @dansup @jwildeboer What would you see in PeerTube? We have a Support field in channels & videos (video field inherits channel's one). A Support button is displayed below the video player

@thelinuxEXP @fabio @Techaltar @dansup @jwildeboer Okay I understand! A system directly integrated in PeerTube. Thanks for your feedback!

@dansup No problem for that don't hesitate to tell me if you need us to change our federated objects on peertube side :)

@Framasoft Le support d'une technologie cast est-elle au programme de peertube ? La chromecast semble basé sur Blink en licence BSD et GNU LGPL. Il y a des freins techniques ou moraux à cela ou juste financier ?

Chocobozzz,
@Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

Chocobozzz,
@Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

    This is my first upload, a collection of animations that I made as an example of how a level selection screen could be handled for my racing game.

    If you have a second, I'd love to hear what happens when other people click this link.

    We tried to simulate 1000 viewers on a video, and then on a livestream. (Note that 99% of twitch livestreams are under 1000 simultaneous views.)

    We optimized accordingly... And here are the results: it works!

    With a ~20$ server, PeerTube can now support such usecases.

    @Arcaik @peertube PeerTube uses multiple cores. NodeJS can use multiple threads using worker threads: https://nodejs.org/api/worker_threads.html

    Let’s give Meta the benefit of the doubt for one second and assume they want to embrace and extend but not extinguish . Where do they go for the extend part? XMPP has the XMPP Standards Foundation that gives a diverse set of stakeholders a framework to collaborate on new extensions.

    From standing on the sidelines for a year it looks a lot like is pretty much just doing their own thing.

    @astrojuanlu @daniel @smallcircles No time is the answer for PeerTube :)

    But we follow new FEPs and will implement some of them (https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-2677-identifying-the-application-actor/3646 for example)

    PeerTube is a fantastic project. But its UI is designed around people creating "channels" for publishing video regularly to an audience, as a lot of people do on ThemTube. A lot of the PeerTube UI assumptions don't make sense if what you want is a video library, more like Vimeo. A dedicated host for videos (and other bulky media files) to be embedded elsewhere, or just shared within a group.

    Does anyone know an actively maintained free code project designed for that?

    Chocobozzz,
    @Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

    Hello @owncast

    I have some question about Owncast vs Fediverse

    1. Is it possible to federate between Peertube and Owncast? In other words,can i open an owncast stream on Peertube?

    2. I'm working on the Peertube chat plugin. I made a Fediverse Enhancement Proposals (https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/1970/fep-1970.md) so that third party softwares can open chats associated to live streams. See here: https://livingston.frama.io/peertube-plugin-livechat/technical/thirdparty/

    Are you insterested to implement this in owncast?
    Have you any comment on the FEP?

    Thanks!

    @Chocobozzz@framapiaf.org avatar

    @owncast @John_Livingston Hi, don't hesitate to create an issue for federation problems :) I'll try to see how we can fix this: it's true a peertube user can only follow a Group (channel in peertube world) but maybe we can allow following an account when it doesn't have channels (owncast case, where I don't think you have the channel concept).

    Servers can also follow other specific accounts and channels since several versions now :)
