Modernization of the admin, and the option for it's customization seems like the biggest announcement to me - and it's been long overdue...

I don't know how viable is this lawsuit against , for the deliberately harmful effects of on young people... but I hope they win.

The profit of the extremely wealthy people/companies should never be above the law and the benefit of the society as a whole.

I've been reading about the subject of in the recent weeks, and the area of really intrigued me.

There have been similar programs, but only for the core.

I'm glad there's a new financial incentive in the WordPress ecosystem, to help fix bugs and security issues of popular plugins/themes, and make this project remain competitive.

Integrity like this has become really rare in the industry that's mostly oriented towards chasing the new big thing, no matter the consequences.

Really admirable stance on abuse of training data for models.

It's always good to have more examples to learn from.

I've found that once you get your head around the data types and their individual features (mainly built-in functions), and basic loop logic, you can learn fast other similar programming languages.

I don't think people understand how monumentally difficult it will be to migrate away from Tailwind, when that day comes (and it almost certainly will, for any project looking to the future).

It's wild to see people who would care deeply about platform lock-in in an other context not even giving it a second thought in the case of Tailwind.

Imoptimal,

@collinsworth

It will take some additional time for sure to reconfigure styles, but not as difficult as most other programming frameworks that make an infrastructure of a website/app.

My Fediverse Embeds WordPress plugin is now available in the plugin directory:

Huge thanks to everyone who helped me test it during the initial development!

Looks nice, and it's a great feature to store it in the database.

🎉 Our Accessibility Checker plugin hit 3,000+ active installs today. We've been checking daily because we knew it was really close, and now it's time to 🥳.

Thanks to everyone who trusts our software to help you make your #WordPress website more accessible. #a11y #accessibility #WordPressPlugin

Glad to hear that, congratulations.

We definitely need more plugins that make the more usable, not just complex.

I just can't help but notice the more we've fetishized building websites quickly, the more they've all started to look exactly the same.

@collinsworth

True, and by taking shortcuts, we end up with a performance and security mess...

Almost the very-first question in this year's Community Life Survey has the option to say I "don't have any friends". 😭

Imoptimal,

@dan

That's really sad and disturbing.

With the rise of #socialMedia and #datingApps, we're gonna end up with the #epidemic of #asociale people.

If we don't address the issues of #mentalHealth & #sexualHealth in connection to #tech (especially among young people), our society will be in deep s*it very soon.

Imoptimal, to BritneySpears

I doubt would be that childish, but then again... anyway, that's really funny.

Thinking about it some more, the fundamental flaw with CoPilot is that the goal is to make it faster and easier to generate code.

As a programmer, you don't want to generate code.

You want to solve problems, and the less code involved the better. I don't want to tools that will generate boilerplate, I want less boilerplate.

https://github.blog/2022-09-07-research-quantifying-github-copilots-impact-on-developer-productivity-and-happiness/ shows the problem. "Less mental effort on repetitive tasks", sure, but you should be trying to prevent the repetition, not do more of it.

Imoptimal,

@itamarst

I don't use it, but I am using some other , but only as a first draft (starting point).

It saves me time - you can find code snippets quicker than browsing the web.

However, the biggest issue is the fact that it usually gives incomplete answers, and you need to know what's missing, to fill the gaps.

It won't replace programmers anytime soon.

Imoptimal, to mastodon

Why doesn't the official have the lists feature yet?!

If it's one of the basic features of , why was it excluded from the mobile app to begin with?

On the one hand, one needs to follow a bunch of people in order to get a full and interesting post feed (in the absence of any algorithm).

On the other hand, in order to have a consistent and meaningful interaction with a reasonable and selected group of people, one needs a feature like that!

Imoptimal,

@FinchHaven

I've tried a bunch of apps, and they're quite good - but I really don't want to be forced to authorize a third party app, if there's already a default option.

Imoptimal, (edited )

@Bahadir

I was using the version from the Google App Store until few days ago... now I'm back on the web version.

It's possible I had auto updates off.

I reinstalled it and found the feature.

Thanks!

P. S. Now I feel stupid, but it's not the first or the last time...

Great news! Humans are now slower and perform worse at solving Captchas than machine-learning bots!

Article here:
https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.12108

Imoptimal,

@yassie_j

And that's relevant because?

If doesn't solve social issues and real world problems, it's pointless (besides the huge profit it gives to those already privileged).

Imoptimal,

@yassie_j

I found extremely annoying anyway, so I look forward to something better.
