Well, definitely won’t be renewing this SiriusXM subscription after our free trial. What is this bullshit “U.S. Music Royalty Fee”? Like sorry you have to pay for the music you play ON YOUR SATELLITE MUSIC SERVICE???

James,

@motoridersd @john Wow. Yeah, I get the YouTube Music family plan (which also comes with YouTube Premium) for less than that 😮

@motoridersd @john did you do the VPN in Argentina sign-up trick or something like that?

Honeysuckle is in bloom, and while I know it's invasive and I mostly ripped it out of my yard, it smells AMAZING 😍

That short class I took in Paris really got me thinking about making cheese again. I've been getting some ideas and I'm prepping for some experiments over the next few months.

Put together a cheese press today for some of these future experiments!

Restarting my (hopefully more successful) foray into ! 🧀🧀

I haven’t been home much this week to play with the new Sonos app but I’m trying to use it today and good LORD is it garbage.

My garden isn't progressing much this spring. But this sage that I started from seed in my apartment a few years ago (before the house) has LOVED being replanted in my raised bed. It blooms a ton and the bees absolutely love it. I have to severely prune it back twice a year or it takes over!

Our final inspections are done for the heavy up, EV charger and range outlet, and Pepco has come to connect our new service line, so I could finally reinstall the Emporia Vue Energy monitor in our new panel. It’s working great and now my energy dashboards are working again. 🤓

James,
@James@woof.group avatar

@rickscully @john Does the Vue have local access? I had to flash custom on the Vue2 to achieve local access( ...a moot point now because it completely died last month anyway).

James,
@James@woof.group avatar

@john @rickscully boo 😕
At one point their cloud service was down for several days, which is what initially prompted me to flash esphome on it. I was hoping they'd have a local API set up in addition to their cloud API with this new version -- but I guess not.

James,
@James@woof.group avatar

@john that's another benefit of flashing esphome on it, you can completely customize how each channel is read, filtered, and aggregated: https://github.com/emporia-vue-local/esphome

Just checked and it looks like the Vue 3 is also ESP32-based and so this would flash the same way

    Fun time to buy a Tesla, a car which is entirely dependent for long distance travel on Tesla's charging network, which was maintained by a five hundred person team Musk just fired in its entirety https://www.fastcompany.com/91116692/tesla-lay-offs-supercharger-team-evs-network-automakers-gm-ford

    James,
    @James@woof.group avatar

    @john @aphyr Tesla opened up their proprietary charger plug to be a standard (the "North American Charging Standard", NACS) last year. There's a major coalition of EV makers who have both announced they will be adopting the new port and charging standard (SAE 3400) and have also started laying the groundwork for their own major charging network.

    I believe the current version of NACS "speaks" CCS and so they're technically compatible, though the presence of an appropriate adapter is required.

    @gruff try working on a team with folks in Australia, Central Europe, Western Europe, and California. I regularly get messages at 230 AM! The best solution I've found is pausing work app notifications on my phone outside of my core hours, and also setting "focus time" do-not-disturb blocks on my calendar most mornings before 10 AM ET.

    So I've always cooked with a little MSR backpacking stove, but I got a little solar panel and battery for this car trip and holy cow it's really powerful! Been wondering if you could drop the stove and use an induction cooktop instead.

    Bringing a liter of water from 40 to 210 F is about 110 Wh, and takes about 3.5 minutes with a 2 kW heater. The Jackery 1000 can do that, and you could manage daily cooking for two with... Maybe 3 peak hours per day w/a 200 watt panel?

    James,
    @James@woof.group avatar

    @aphyr you don't need to be at 100% charge to do a 30 mile day trip though, right?

    I spent a ton of time automating a process based on a specified set of inputs and desired outputs. Stakeholders seemed happy.

    Stakeholders proceed to send me nothing but uncovered edge cases that don't match the specified inputs/outputs, but still expect quick turnaround because "didn't you automate all of this already?"

    Not what I wanted to deal with at 1630 on a Friday afternoon.
