I'd like to make a business mastodon account for Hello Code so we have a place we can toot about stuff we're working on. I avoided making one for ages because the fediverse wasn't about that, but it seems like it's acceptable these days.

So, what's a good server for a software biz ""brand"" account? mstdn.business doesn't seem super active. Are there perhaps some tech ones that don't mind toots about releases and new features and stuff?

It's a long shot, but does anyone have a contact at lastfm? They've blocked our IP address from using their auth endpoint to connect new users in Exist, for some unknown reason (although everything else works fine), and of course there's no response from the support email address I found. :BoostOK:

Of course because our API credentials still work, we could rig up a hacky workaround to do this step from another IP address, but I'd prefer to just get them to fix it. 😐

Don't let tipping become the norm in Australia. Normalise improving wages and working conditions over tipping. Tips are a way for businesses to shift the responsibility for paying their employees a fair wage onto customers.

    @decryption we implemented a referral link program ages ago too and it's similar — the referrer gets some credit on their account per signup and the new user gets an extra month free. And yeah, barely anyone uses it. We get a lot of word of mouth in general but I reckon referral links feel less organic to people and more like they're trying to sell something, so they feel grubby. Which is fair enough.

    Re last boost: Can I also ask that people add alt text to all their images. I don't have a vision impairment but still find them useful — sometimes they explain a joke or reference I don't get, or if the image doesn't load I can still get an idea of what your toot was about. Everyone benefits.

    @chrisjrn yeah, I didn't want to stick to that exactly, part of the fun of recreating it is trying my own thing... But yeah, there's something about the difficulty from the range plus the digits used that is hard to get exactly right with an algorithm. For me, at least

    Oh, I forgot to share this I did months ago. I think it turned out pretty well. It's based on a photo I took in Melbourne. I haven't finished any more since, I'm having a hard time committing to making stuff lately
