Any USB-C / Smart Charger / PD experts out there?

Trying to find out how much more $$ it would have cost Staresso to put a smart PD style charger receiver inside their new Discovery II USB-C charging cordless coffee grinder. It appears to have a pretty basic 5V /1A charger, and it does not work with a 35W USB-C charging brick I have, but does work with a Qualcomm Q 18W charger I have.

Does it need a smarter battery too to make rapid charging / PD chargers work?

endareth,
@endareth@disobey.net avatar

@coffeegeek It’s a common problem in cheaper electronics. They basically just swap a MicroUSB socket out for a USB-C one, but don’t add the circuitry required to do any basic voltage negotiation so that actual USB-C chargers are unable to determine what voltage to supply. Adafruit had an article on exactly this, with a kit that effectively fixed this with an inline connector. Wouldn’t expect a manufacturer fix to have been more than a dollar or so to do.

Anybody out there with solid experience with in / ? All the resources for the Gender Dysphoria Bible are managed in terraform, but they're created against my root account.

I want to migrate them all to their own organization, but can't find any guides on how to do this in terraform. I don't want to break my config by clickopsing this.

endareth,
@endareth@disobey.net avatar

@twipped Resources aren’t “owned”, so once they’re created they’re fine. If you’re talking about setting up a completely new AWS account within the same Organisation and moving resources into it, that’s very different (and not really possible).

endareth,
@endareth@disobey.net avatar

@twipped Accounts belong to organisations, not the other way around. If you want to keep your original account separate, you’d have to create a new account either without a parent org or with a different parent org to your original account. Either way you’re not able to transfer resources between them. What you’d probably want to do is snapshot any databases from origin account, transfer them to the new account, then use terraform to spin up completely new resources using those snapshots to restore data from where appropriate. You’d likely need to then update DNS to point to the new account resources.

If you’ve got an org with your original account, and want to actually move the account into a different org, that should also work, but it doesn’t sound like you’re set up like that.

Really not impressed with the current EOFY sale offers for tech products. Was hoping I'd be able to get myself a few decent discounts on the NAS I want to set up, plus a new SSD for the laptop, but nothing so far is catching my eye.

endareth,
@endareth@disobey.net avatar

@liampomfret WD Red of various types have been having temperature problems due to them dropping helium-based cooling, would definitely recommend checking that before going WD. Haven’t had much experience with alternatives lately.

@liampomfret Yeah, fine for an air conditioned server room. Pick the new non-helium drives:

@decryption If you haven’t got extra batteries sorted yet, I found https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B09KN74Z85 to be surprisingly good quality and value. Way better charger than the Canon comes with too—USB-C FTW!

First words holding the M4 iPad Pro: “holy **** that’s thin.”

Second words, half a minute later: “that’s just absurdly thin.”

Third words, another half a minute later: “the new Magic Keyboard is so much nicer!” Thinner, lighter, better materials 🤩

This is a big upgrade 👍

Question for crowd. I've always stayed away from TouchID (or similar) due to not wanting Apple (or other companies) to have access to my fingerprint. Am I wrong?

endareth,
@endareth@disobey.net avatar

@mr_oova See https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/security/sec067eb0c9e/web. The biometrics data is stored in the Secure Enclave on your device and never leaves. The data is never sent off your device. For companies other than Apple, I couldn’t say.

Am I the only one who would much rather an extra 10–20% battery life over having a slightly thinner #Apple #iPad? And same for #iPhone. Every single year.
