More along the Mawddach Trail for my Daily .

In the 18th & 19th centuries it was more, um, industrial - there were small shipbuilding yards, often by the rivers running into the estuary. This is one site; the wall on the left is part of a quayside. In total 318 vessels were built on the Mawddach. And up on the far side was the Clogau gold mine. Different times. And a lot less silt.

We stopped to paddle.

Daily is still strolling along the Mawddach trail (did it twice in two months, once in six hours with a geologist, off along side trails, plant and rock spotting - then in under two with an overactive collie and zero diversions). The pics are from the first trip!

This must have been an amazing train journey - once upon a time.

Daily , a , and a continuation along the Mawddach Trail - looking inland from the path. A fascinating walk with a geologist…

More along the Mawddach Trail for today’s Daily - looking seawards, with Barmouth’s wooden railway viaduct in the distance, seen between the branches.

Daily along the Mawddach trail - taking plenty of time to admire the wildflowers. These are sea pinks, and so deserve a

And today, hopefully, my new phone arrives after my old one died yesterday (am still in mourning for my old friend, mind).

Continuing my summer walk along the Mawddach Trail for my Daily , this time looking inland and across the estuary. I can’t recommend this walk strongly enough!

The next few Daily pics will take a stroll along the Mawddach Trail, at low tide and the height of summer. The flat Trail - it’s an old railway route - leads walkers (and cyclists and absolutely everyone) along the estuary from the sea to Dolgellau. We started at the coast and walked inland - here, looking coastwards early on.

Daily and a … Mist on the estuary

This Daily was taken a couple of years ago. It’ll be worse right now; I’m betting on no footpath but not inclined to investigate - because it’s a) still dark outside & b) there’s a hole in my wellies.

Daily and today comes from Penrhyn Castle near Bangor - the kitchens.

Penrhyn was built on the backs of slaves on sugar plantations and, closer to home, workers in the family’s slate quarries. This terrible history is made perfectly clear now - thankfully.

Daily and a today. It’s from the winter of 2010-11, when even we had snow (it’s not that common here, by the coast - a few miles inland is a different story).

I need a calming Daily but somehow I don’t think it will be enough. So here’s a storm blurring the sun instead.

(Off to donate to MSF / UNICEF and a plague on both your houses, fecking bastards)

Daily time, before looking at the news so no need for calm. Here’s Barmouth / Abermaw (or Y Bermo, if you like) after a storm a few years back. I was standing on the top of a dune which had previously been a footpath… oddly beautiful, tho.

@fkamiah17 Thanks for the warning, I’ll add porridge to the mix too (that usually works, and it’s cold out there).

Daily fir the start of the week, up in the mountains again, with hawthorns. Damp hawthorns.

It’s time, so my Daily comes from my favourite local beach (well, my favourite local estuary which leads onto …). Llandanwg, near Harlech. An early morning in summer, tide on the turn.

Daily , , or whatever - calming? Not so sure; it’s the view through an arrow slit in the castle at Caernarfon.

Daily time. In search of more calming effects, here’s are the woods behind me looking all snowy. From a few years back, mind (we don’t get a lot here; too close to the coast).

Sounds wild out there, so maybe my ‘beach walk before meeting’ plan won’t happen. Here’s a Daily from the possible beach anyway.

Next, strong coffee and the news…

Going to try and squeeze in a walk through the woods today. These woods, for my Daily . Not sure whether I want to calm down or get more angry, but I am sure that the latter will achieve sweet FA…

I’m definitely going to need coffee before news today, and I know I’ll need a calming Daily , so here is one. Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon and friends from Harlech.

and today’s Daily comes from the Glaslyn, near Beddgelert. Not that you’d know it in the mist.

A lovely piece on a brilliant author, often ignored or patronised by the literary establishment (and better than many):

Pratchett power: from lost stories to new adaptations, how the late Discworld author lives on https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/oct/07/terry-pratchett-discworld-author-the-colour-of-magic?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Tree ferns in the gardens at Plas Cadnant, Menai Bridge. A fabulous , well worth a visit (good tea room, too).
