Album of the Day 233: Fragile by Yes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPCLFtxpadE&list=OLAK5uy_mr3aLJuPJvJve1bSwRl-8W4iN8uhGOr80&index=1

1971 prog rock album from London, England. Okay, everyone loves "Roundabout." But where's the love for the rest of the album? It's an incredible album the whole way through.

Except for "Cans and Brahms." Feel free to skip the "pesky contracts prevented a Rick Wakeman original" track. 😆

My picks: "South Side of the Sky," "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)," "Heart of the Sunrise"

I wonder which stratagem is responsible for the most team kills. So much fun data I’m sure they’re sitting on.

@InfiniteHench My guesses:

  • Mortar sentry
  • Gatling sentry
  • Orbital 380mm HE

Album of the Day 232: Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void by Chris Christodoulou

https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/risk-of-rain-2-survivors-of-the-void

2022 prog electronic/prog rock OST from Athens, Greece. I have a few complaints about the DLC this soundtrack is tied to, but the music is definitely not one of them. Chris Christodoulou seems to be unable to do wrong.

My picks: "Once in a Lullaby," "They Might As Well Be Dead," "The Face of the Deep"

https://faircamp.radiofreefedi.net/limnetic/replications/

2022 alt rock/electronic album from Ireland. At times reminds me of Nine Inch Nails—"Vulture" in particular. "Digoxin" gives me some Battles vibes.

My picks: "Vulture," "Sad Gits," "Digoxin"

1997 indie rock album from Stockton, California, rereleased in 2008 with outtakes, b-sides, parts of live shows, etc. from the same time period.

My picks: "Stereo," "Harness Your Hopes (B-side)," "The Killing Moon (BBC Evening Session)"

Album of the Day 229: Young Team by Mogwai

https://mogwai.bandcamp.com/album/young-team-deluxe-edition

1997 post-rock album from Glasgow, Scotland. The opening song is warm and inviting, only to get dragged down then walloped in the face by "Like Herod." The rest of the album mostly stays in a more mellow mood track before the fantastic (and lengthy) closer.

My picks: "Yes! I Am a Long Way from Home," "R U Still in 2 It?" "Mogwai Fear Satan"

new pedal day! my first pedals actually.

i know these are “cheap” pedals, but i really wanted to just see how things go with something affordable before i invest a lot of money in fancier units. also, no fancy effects yet, but hopefully will just have more control over my sound beyond the pickup controls on the bass or the bass/mid/treble controls on the amp.

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@mishamouse Nothing wrong with Behringer pedals. They're clones of tried and true Boss pedals, just in cheaper housing. Hope they work out well for you!

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@mishamouse People do have very strong opinions about gear. Some of it is warranted—for instance, Behringer has done some less-than-ethical things over the years, best left to some Benn Jordan YouTube videos to explain—but at other times, it's best described as snobbery, elitism, or excessive brand loyalty. In the mix and from the audience, almost nobody is going to know or care if you're using a $20 or a $300 pedal.

Enjoy the dabbling, make some music, and have fun!

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@mishamouse To be clear, while Behringer has been problematic, they also make some great cheap clones of out of production synths, and did eventually make good on a promise to donate synths (and money) to music-related charities. It's not as black-and-white "Behringer is bad" as people can make it out to be.

My current wallpaper ❤️ (for many years now)

What's yours?

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@Gamrok Really should give Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery another go. Never completed it. Great wallpaper, though.

This has been my background for a year or so now. Only in trying to find the source of this picture did I find out that it's actually an Unreal Engine 4 render!

Really should look around for something new, but having a 21:9 monitor does restrict options, unless you want black bars.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp2xpfWV6IM&list=OLAK5uy_kOBeSLd9LQxWTc9fMmWFGBqgDuFxIxJo4&index=1

1976 progressive electronic/Berlin School album. A spacey synthesizer-focused album, starting each half fairly ambient before building to a more prog-styled jam. Harald Großkopf's drumming really meshes well with the synths on this album.

@drheyzeus Congrats on the new phone!

Can't stand gesture navigation, myself. Thankfully, there's a setting to turn back on 3-button navigation, if you end up being like me.

Album of the Day 227: Don Caballero 2 by Don Caballero

https://doncaballero.bandcamp.com/album/don-caballero-2

1995 math rock/noise rock album from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Loud, angular, discordant. Aggressive up front, although the album calms down a bit towards the back end.

Pro-tip: if you ever want to annoy co-workers, try putting on "Repeat Defender," especially from about 4:28-5:48!

My picks: "Stupid Puma," "Repeat Defender," "Dick Suffers Is Furious With You"

@KCDOZ I got into Don Caballero already loving Ian Williams' work in Battles, so it's really neat being able to go back and hear his sound develop into the direction that Battles went in.

According to this interview, John McEntire from Tortoise was the one that recommended the Akai Headrush to Ian.

Album of the Day 226: Maggot Brain by Funkadelic

https://funkadelic.bandcamp.com/album/maggot-brain

1971 funk rock/psychedelic rock album from Detroit, Michigan. Eddie Hazel's guitar work on "Maggot Brain" is amazing. "Wars Of Armageddon" is absolute nonsense, devolving to music overlaid with fart sounds at one point, but damn if it isn't funky.

My picks: "Maggot Brain," "Can You Get To That," "Super Stupid"

My Logi Pro Wireless mouse has been stuttering lately (on mouse press) and I cannot quite figure out how to fix it. Ugh.

I’ve had it about 5 years now, I hope I don’t need to replace it. 😩

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@britt My right click on my Logitech mouse is also starting to go on me. It's a discontinued model, too. 😞

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@britt Yeah, pretty much. Go to aim down sights in Helldivers, and if I'm not firm on the right-click, it'll quickly go in and out of ADS repeatedly.

While the G303 Daedalus Apex is discontinued, they did end up making a new wireless version of the G303. Don't know if I'd like the changed weight and dimensions, nor having to keep track of the battery on it, though.

In November 2023, I returned to Magic the Gathering after a 25-year break. I joined the EDH league in my local game store and bought my first Commander Deck, Blood Rites, from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set. After 70+ games and numerous upgrades, I still greatly enjoy piloting Clavileño, First of the Blessed, and his vampire demon armies.

What was your first Commander deck?

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@raf_leszczynski My first commander deck was the Token Triumph Starter Commander precon. I've since purchased way too many precons—I really enjoy always having something new and unfamiliar to try out, not really knowing what to expect with each deck—but I still greatly enjoy when I bring that first deck out again, and was a great place to start playing Magic for me.

(Also, the showcase art for Clavileño is so much better than the standard art!)

The full art for Emmara, Soul of the Accord by Kai Carpenter. The version of the art on the card is cropped to fit the card, and the etched foil finish greatly reduces the quality of the image. A pale elf in a green dress holds up a staff topped with the Selesnya logo, resembling a tree with pointed leaves. Around her, a crowd of elves cheers on as they stand in the middle of a city with Baroque-esque architecture with plentiful plant life. Art source: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/vJnBqv
