i've always found pop covers of metal songs fascinating as they clearly draw out the original creator's intended melody and reveal the pop underpinnings of metal (standard verse-chorus song structures, for example), and The Cardigan's cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath comes close to being one of my favorite renovations.

anything else come to mind?

ah, I see the old "games should be longer" discourse is making rounds again.

@djlink Every couple months I recite this meme when I see an exhausting 40 hour plus game trying devour my attention. I miss the weekend game. Remember when you sat down with a game on Friday and beat it by Sunday? I miss the weekend game.

GARY NUMAN
The Pleasure Principle
1979 Canada pressing

Once I finished listening to the John Foxx record, I had to put this on.
Gary & John are two artists that are forever entwined for me.

The Pleasure Principle is one of the greatest albums of all time, regardless of genre or era, and NO I did not stutter.

Without Gary (and John as well), it’s hard to imagine a world that has Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, or Depeche Mode.
Just a legendary artist.

For, I think, the first time ever we had clear weather coming in over the south-east coast of Greenland yesterday. It was a mighty view.

I've stumbled upon a video elaborating over the idea of "Videogames are meant to be played, not looked at" discussing that graphics don't need to be awesome but the gameplay needs to be fun (case in point: Minecraft is the best selling game of all time), and I've realized that that's one of the main reasons I do so much . As long as the gameplay is engaging, graphics are just a means to an end. And old fun games don't require a latest-gen £1000 NVidia GPU to run decently.

I’m 42-years-old, and I’m always looking out for new music. And not just new music – forgotten music. One of my hobbies is trawling YouTube for songs with 0 views.

But I’m an outlier. For most people, discovery of new music peaks at adolescence. And when you hit your 30s, musical taste calcifies.

There’s lots of data to back this up.

I notice this doesn’t just happen with music but with movies as well. Lots of older men don’t want to watch new movie franchises. They want to return to the old “nostalgia” well again and again.

Personally, I find such malaise depressing. I never want to stop growing as a human being, experiencing new things.

CHART: When was the best decade for music? Your answer probably depends on how old you are
CHART: On average, peoples' music taste evolved quickly through age 25, before reaching "maturity" in the mid-30s
CHART: average number of artists in listening rotation by age group

I love how the title screen music in "Golden Axe II" seamlessly transitions from "stern, high fantasy march" to "George Clinton funkiness" within the space of 30 seconds

Look at this beautiful lady! Saw her on my late afternoon walk, hanging out with all these babies on her back. Amazing stuff, first time I ever saw it in real life.

SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE
Diary
2017 U.S. 2xLP Ltd. Ed. Reissue

A monster album for me when I was in high school.
Being a total devotee of all things Sub Pop in the , this one hit me in a way that none of the label’s other releases at the time.

I remember buying it on tape, & it taking me at least a week to get past the first 3 songs, because I kept rewinding it after Song For An Angel and playing those 3 over & over.

Amazing album that still holds up.

I randomly fallen into Amiga tracker music on Youtube last night and now I'm fascinated by this piece of early electronic music history. Ahoy's video on it was extremely informative not just about that, but also about the early origins of the Demo scenes, piracy and keygen scenes, early game development and music composing. Now I feel like I hit a huge cache of old electronic music that I can try to get into and enjoy.

And here I was thinking I was going to get into MIDI tunes because of Doom mods.

We're in Le Havre today, resting our feet in a craft ale bar (surprise!) after walking around for several hours with no firm plans. We've seen some very nice sights and great architecture but none nicer than the Église Saint-Joseph designed by the mentor of Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret. It is absolutely incredible and really difficult to describe, sorry.

ONCE AGAIN: companies DO NOT GIVE ONE FUCK & will treat the Things you love w/ disdain & zero respect. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS PROFIT and that means most will eventually fail, because their goals are not sustainable.

They don't want you to realize the lie of "buying" something digitally, which is: you don't REALLY own SHIT.
