The “problem” with yesterday’s corned beef was that there was only enough for me to get one sandwich.

This leaves me with a loaf of Jewish Rye, and since the panini press was still out on the counter… voilà!

Ham, bacon, and Swiss on rye panini.

is a bit on my shit-list today.

•My rear rim is damaged.
•Took it to my local bike shop (GMF) and they couldn’t find a spoke wrench (4mm) to fit it, but they put it on the truing stand, and it’s got a significant bulge in it (5-8mm.) but couldn’t/wouldn’t do anything about it.
•Got junk eMail from Rad today with a link to “local service” which pointed me to another shop (The Vello) in my area.

My (late) dad had two “trips of a lifetime” he wanted to complete. In 1975 he and I attempted to drive the Alaskan Highway which starts in B.C., goes through Yukon Territory and into Alaska - almost 1,400 miles. Considering we started driving in Arizona it was an ambitious summer.

Unfortunately a freak insect bite and infection curtailed our progress and ended the trip early, in Washington. He never got to Alaska.

His other dream trip was the Yucatán Peninsula to see the Mayan ruins. (Cont.)

My eldest is barreling towards their graduation from ASU this semester. As part of their final requirements, this evening they’ll be exhibiting their work at the ASU Art Gallery.

Since my retirement, I’m not used to having to shave mid-week. It feels unnatural.

Every video and online instruction on how to install shows installing the armour into the tire, then installing the innertube into the armour.

The only people that say to put the innertube into armour first, then armour into tire? Tannus themselves.

I feel like I should be following the manufacturer’s instructions. But why does no one do it that way?

I may find out now.

Some might consider this a superfluous purchase, considering (apart from when I worked in a bike shop) that, on average, I have to pull a crank every 15 years.

Nonetheless, I now own a crank puller.

I am ready for 2039 when next I’ll need it.

My experiences with Waymo so far have been most satisfactory.

Far less scary than riding in a car with an unknown, untrusted human.

@evoterra @donburnside Are you aware of this? Does IMDB swoop through and harvest audio podcasts and incorporate them into their database regularly?

I just stumbled across mine on IMDB in a WTF? moment.

Nasty little secret about #Phoenix: They claim to have 700-800 miles of bike paths, and while I don’t doubt the number, I do doubt the value of them.

There are many, many demarcated bike lanes that go a couple blocks and then end.

I’ve started a little project to write up and highlight a number of the useful bike paths — the ones that can get you some distance reasonably easily.

Today’s ride (as was yesterday’s) was Maryland Ave.

Googling “best bicycle seat for old man's butt” is not producing fantastic results. Does have wisdom to impart?

(It’s for an eBike, so shaving off the grams is not that important.)

Yes, “best bicycle saddle for old man's butt” was tried, too.

Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras… I’ve heard them all, but never had I ever heard it called Pancake Day/Tuesday until a Brit mentioned it to me a couple weeks ago.

I’m thinking no one calls it that in the US???

As with all things associated with observance of Easter, I’m looking forward to eating pancakes… on Wednesday.

My 2K project has been a real adventure. I’m reconstructing my wife’s and my Year 2000 visit to the UK.

I’ve transcribed my handwritten journal, then converted that to a (hopefully) readable narrative.

I’ve taken the rather poor scans of the film prints and upscaled and edited them.

Now I’m working on cleaning up and upsampling the Hi8 analog video.

Each one of those steps has been an adventure in itself.

Final goal: Narrated AV presentation?

Well, I’ve got the bike out in the middle of the living room floor now. I can’t put it away without taking it for a ride. That is the samurai bike warrior code.

Used the opportunity to replace the battery in the bikes, AirTag. What a pain that is. But it should be difficult to get out.

That somehow turned into battery replacement day for several of my other AirTags that have been complaining lately.

In 1998, I wrote down my travels in physical journals.
By 2005, I was blogging them instead of writing them
By 2011, I was tweeting them instead of blogging them

In 2024, I'm lucky to have the archive I downloaded from Twitter before I deleted that shit-show. Even still, that is a completely discombobulated hot mess.

My written journals are still tangible and easily accessible (to me.) The rest may have been pissing in the wind.

Watching USA vs Bangladesh in . Shocked that USA apparently beat Bangladesh the other day. Not going to happen today, I fear.

Match in Houston. The field looks awful. No stands. Maybe 50 people watching the match.

Still… go team USA!
