As I expected, TERFs like Natasha Chart and Jeanna Hoch are going after Lierre Keith, Kara Dansky, WoLF and WDI-USA, citing the RCA article as evidence of their incompetence. Natasha Chart is the former board chair of WoLF who now opposes them largely because of how she was treated while she worked for WoLF. Jeanna Hoch is the TERF who maced high-schoolers at the TERF rally that took place in Tacoma in 2022. Afterwards she faced criticism from Lierre and Dansky and has been attacking them and their organizations ever since, specifically going after their policy of “non-violence direct action”. She’s in favor of TERFs using violence against trans people and counter-protesters, as well as using far-right groups, private security and/or police to protect TERF hate rallies.

Hoch and other TERFs in favor of violent tactics and collaboration with far-right groups are currently speaking out against the WDI-USA event in Portland, criticizing them for their “NVDA” and saying it would’ve been better if they’d had security and/or engaged in “self-defense”. They’re managing to sway some TERFs and turn them against WoLF and WDI-USA. A lot of TERFs wouldn’t attend a WoLF or WDI-USA rally because they know there will be no security and they’re afraid of “trantifa violence”. TERFs are cowards, so things like pies, silly strings and loud noises are enough to keep many of them off the streets.

Ironically, Lierre and Dansky helped pave the way for TERFs collaborating with the Right but now they’re not right-wing enough for a lot of TERFs and so they’re losing ground. To TERFs like Hoch they come off as foolish and weak for not using violence or having security at their rallies.

This is both good and bad. Good since it does mean that Lierre Keith, Kara Dansky and their organizations are losing status but bad since it means the more violent, openly far-right TERFs are gaining more power in the US TERF movement. At the same time, it might be easier to turn more people against TERFs if the more violent and overtly far-right ones become more visible. Despite what Hoch and her friends think, macing kids and hanging out with Proud Boys is a bad look.

I am overjoyed to see antifascists do a write-up about one of the main US TERF groups. I know from my past in the radfem/TERF movement that these people are dangerous abusive authoritarians who are serious about eliminating trans people but it’s sometimes been a struggle to get people to take them seriously. Antifascists are among the groups that do see and understand the threat. Over the last few years it’s been great seeing more and more antifascists resisting and organizing against TERFs, including meeting them in the streets. I fucking love it! Good luck to everyone in Portland in taking down the TERFs tomorrow!
