Ordered a 3.5inch floppy drive this morning. Stupidly excited but I've only got a couple of disks that I want to archive. Might have to find some more.

Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four) played on a random shuffle of the media server this morning.

Eurythmics produced the soundtrack for the film Nineteen Eighty-Four (released in 1984) an adaptation of George Orwell's novel of the same name. Clips of the film were interwoven with scenes of the band performance in the music video.

On watching the video for the first time in a while I was reminded how graphically the film portrayed a totalitarian surveillance state that seems dangerously closer to reality now than it did when I first watched the film. An intense film if you have never seen it.

I haven't carried cash since living in Berlin, 8 years ago.

So of course I get my haircut in the one cash-only place in the USA half an hour before closing on a Friday!

Thankfully I found paper funds and returned in time.

@revengeday just reminded me that the next time I fly to Berlin it won't be into Tegel :neocat_sad:

I still remember the poll that the Berliner Morgenpost ran in 2015 asking when BER would open (just after the "having to replace flight information TVs because they'd run too long in an unopened airport" fiasco) I think the winning vote was a Berlinerisch "never".

Ah, good times.

"25th work anniversary"

25 January 1999 was my first day at W3C. I was 23 years old when I started. I've now spent more than half my life at that. I regret nothing because I find the work I do really interesting, important, meaningful; and I don't tire of it because I feel like there's renewal every now and then. I've held many positions, worn many hats, learned a lot of things and I work with incredibly smart and dedicated people.

Happy Workiversary! What a fascinating, productive, and (by the way your blog post is written) fun time you've had so far. Wishing you many more happy and fulfilling years ahead.

My rain barrel experiments continue. I managed to get a vinyl "portable" rain barrel to add alongside my 60 gallon traditional plastic barrel. I connected them using spare bits of hose between their drain taps. After a decent shower just now I have about 45 gallons in one and about 30 gallons in the other. I think a shorter hose joining them, or even a solid pipe would solve the pressure/fill balancing issues but it is already more water than I could capture before!

Max,
@Max@corteximplant.com avatar

@levampyre

Vinyl is definitely not ideal but when it was offered to me for nothing I decided to increase my storage capacity while I continue looking for a regular barrel to replace it with.

The water is non-potable and, living in Florida, I have to treat it to prevent mosquitoes. It's used to water the garden, some herbs and a blackberry bush but mostly ornamentals so our exposure will be limited. Especially if someone free cycles a barrel anytime soon.
