Life really is satire at this point.

I'll never forgot that the UK's answer to constantly rising excess deaths since the beginning of the pandemic was to calculate excess deaths as the number of deaths above "expected" deaths, and then to just start expecting more deaths

Here we have a joke that is funny because it's a Shakespeare quote about how names don't matter, but it's misattributed to someone known for being crass and intentionally unsophisticated, which is ironic, you see, because that misattribution cheapens one of the most famous lines in English literature about how names don't matter.

And THIS joke is funny because you're not supposed to explain the joke. That's not funny, which is why it's funny.

I have three separate jars of onions fermenting. All are taking longer than expected to sour but one just doesn't seem to be doing it at all while the others are effervescent and definitely starting to taste sour. It's been 7 days. Should I toss the one that isn't going sour?

It's a brine fermentation with 4% salt by weight of both onions and water, which is pretty high, I know...

Bird flu🚨:

"Bird flu may be spreading in cows via milking & herd transport. New data challenge assumed transmission route & some call for restricting cattle movement.

It's spreading through dairy cattle in the US may be expanding its reach via milking EQP the ppl doing the milking, or both.

The avian virus may not be spreading directly from cows breathing on cows, as some researchers have speculated-."

@KimPerales I'm honestly skeptical of any media claim that flu might be less airborne than previously thought. While probably true it spreads through milk, claims about it not spreading as much through breath are just laying the groundwork for inaction and minimization.

It's odd, knowing what we know about COVID and where this is very possibly - maybe probably headed.

Like, here I am simultaneously holding the belief that business as usual is going to carry on indefinitely and it will be fine-ish, AND the belief that everyone will die or be completely disabled within the decade.

Rational me believes the latter is likely.

Emotional me just hums along through daily life like everything is normal.

It's just so bizarre to me that full grown adults are out there acting like NOVIDs made them be careful and then feel resentment over it.

That's some next-level inability to accept responsibility for one's own decisions.

It's nobody's job to help you rationalize abandoning caution. None of us want to participate in eugenics.

PacificNic,
@PacificNic@zeroes.ca avatar

@seachanger 💯 🎯

PacificNic, to random
@PacificNic@zeroes.ca avatar

There's a common pattern people follow as they abandon COVID-caution.

  1. They start attending more risky events.
  2. They may or may it catch COVID from attending said events.
  3. They start talking about "balance" and mental health as if caution and mental health are incompatible.
  4. They start blaming NOVIDs for their own choice to protect themselves until recently, claiming the NOVIDs made them do it and that it "destroyed" their mental health.
  5. They project onto NOVIDs, saying they are hopelessly unhappy and nobody could possibly live like that and be mentally well. Often this is where the mental illness accusations come in.
  6. They get angry that people call them out on their minimization.
  7. They completely abandon precaution, often while harboring resentment and hostility towards NOVIDs.

The next step is where they get mad we "didn't warn them".
