Has anyone had the new beta matches list?

I really don't like it and have submitted feedback to that effect.

On my android tablet it's really slow and clunky.

Only the first few words of my notes are now shown.

Having to click through to successive pages of matches is a pest.

It might work OK on a modern pc with lots of memory but for me it's a retrograde step.

Makes things deeply unpleasant :((

Are you in the USA?

Some of the new/forthcoming AncestryDNA changes require a ProTools subscription (membership), which is apparently only available to USA subscribers.

From what I can tell this beta matches page revamp adds zero new functionality and is a pain for me to use. I doubt this will be touted as "Pro Tools"

When the pro tools availability goes worldwide there was talk of one new DNA tool replicating what My Heritage already does ... See the DNA relationship between shared matches ie currently we see only the separation between us and a single match. There's promise of us seeing the separation between others who we Match

I see the latest update to has addressed the problem that affects around 8% of men and 2% of women.

It affects me.

The coloured dot system to group matches by family branch was virtually unusable by me.

Now the dots include a letter ... The first letter of the group name.

Brilliant!!

A really great improvement!!

That's great! And it's good to know those changes have begun rolling out.

In beta.

But will help eventually. I'd codged a fairly random use over the years since I tested.

#FindMyPast has added to its collection of school registers. This morning I've dipped into the beginnings of Bearwood Road school, Smethwick. The trials and tribulations and the first inspector's report.

Really rather good :)

This defection reveals, in my humble opinion, a much greater level of dissatisfaction within the governing party than many of us would have believed.

@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

I wonder if any of my acquaintances know of or have thought about the strategy of defections looked at a bit like "The Prisoner's Dilemma".

I suspect the biggest impact will be to destabilise relationships between those who are staying loyal to their party ... whether the uber loyalists are just pretending ...

Feels like everyone in knows I've got the decorator in the house.

Just had friendly conversation in the café with a couple who hitherto we'd only exchanged smiles.

First Q: "How's the decorator getting on?"

It started a few weeks ago when I shared it in the street with someone who occasionally joins the coffee table after which it's become the opening line with more folk than I thought I knew.

(Am somewhat flattered, in truth.)

With the next government elections not due until May 2026 they've got two years of weak minority government ahead of them.

Interesting times.

For those who think the antics of Tory MPs can't get any racier ... you didn't read about the run up to the 1997 election!

If you can find an old copy of Gyles Brandreth's memoirs you won't regret it. Be assured. There are more boxes yet to be ticked :))

There's something I still don't understand about .

My granny's grandad was buried at Witton Cemetery Birmingham in 1905. I confirmed ages ago with the Birmingham cemetery office he is buried in an unmarked grave in a communal plot.

I found a few minutes ago that he's got a memorial on Find a Grave created by "! WooWoo" who seems to have created 14,618,067 memorials and manages 15,050,447 memorials on Find a Grave.

All credit to "! WooWoo".

Busy lad.

That thing where you get a parking ticket in the post. Over two weeks after the event and long after you've thrown the cash receipt away ... and the parking ticket people don't tell you how much you paid.

So you can't check.

Yes, I likely made an expensive mistake. No arguing.

But I've no reason to revisit that town for pleasure shopping, charity shop shopping and meals.

There are a lot of towns and villages within half an hour's drive from here that meet our needs.

Simple. End of rant.

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

I wouldn't feel so bad about it if the carpark involved weren't a dark rubbish strewn hole under a late 20thC shopping centre with hardly any units let, equally rubbish strewn, in the middle of a Midlands market town.

Used to be the bustling hub of the Vale of Evesham but latterly is clearly in recession. No Brexit bonus anywhere to be seen.

And their councillors will never be voted out so they've no reason whatsoever to look to their laurels.

My latest creation, Frankenstein-like ... a diddley-bow or single string guitar.

I only mark the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 12th fret positions. The rest are guesstimates between them.

Tuned G so the fret marks are on A#, C, D and G octave.

It rings rather nicely with good sustain.

In other respects it sounds dreadful ... which is 👍👍👍😎

RobertJackson58585858,
@RobertJackson58585858@masto.ai avatar

Minor upgrade to the diddley bow. Chrome tin pierced fruit bowl put in place of the brassy swirley resonator.

The bridge is precisely 630 from the nut which left the previous marks for A#, C, D and G Octave correct.

Have also cleaned off some of the construction marks.

Will slowly fall into shape :))
