Facing my first unbootable issue I don't have any idea on how to troubleshoot

Booting the fallback option I can see that it times out waiting for /dev/mapper/vg0-lv_root and /dev/mapper/cryptroot to appear (vg0-lv_root timing out after 1:30 min)

What throws me for a loop is

  1. that it worked just fine yesterday
  2. that I can unlock the LUKS volume just fine and mount my btrfs subvolumes and do stuff no issue in archiso

So I'm completely puzzled as to what broke and nothing I try works to remedy the situation ;_;

"Why do you always write "AI" in quotes?"

Because real AI doesn't currently exist. Every single instance of what we're being told is AI is actually only machine learning. And while machine learning is part of AI, it is not AI.

Calling machine learning AI is like calling an engine, a car. It's a part, an important part. But if all you've got is an engine, you're not going anywhere.

What we call AI is not intelligent. It can't function without direct supervision, and it's only as reliable or useful as the data sets it's trained on. If it's given incorrect information or trained on misinformation, it is not smart and can not differentiate that from correct and factual information. It just takes whatever it's given and uses it all the same.

Real AI is probably decades off at best. Assuming the current flood of trash LLM based stuff doesn't bring about the end of society with it's hallucinations, spreading of false and misleading information, and generally making doing things on the internet completely useless before then.

@xoagray Big Tech just needs to advertise it as “AI” so investors will keep giving them money because the Crypto and Blockchain grift fell through. They need “AI” to succeed to avoid a stock market wipeout. Which also explain the cult-like fervor these tech bros try to convince everyone that stochastic word guessing parrots and pixel estimation algorithms on steroids are the future of the industry

I've often read about people complaining that there isn't one big platform where you can find everyone now

In the context that some people are also asking themselves "Where have all the websites gone?" I don't think that's such a bad development in itself

If those same people realised that it makes sense to have your own website that you have full control over, then maybe we could get back to an internet that thrives on active connections rather than the passive ones that are suggested to us by an algorithm based on criteria that nobody understands how they come about

This whole blog post reads like Stockholm Syndrome with simp levels of brand loyalty

„I’d go slightly further and describe the DMA as anti-U.S.-big-business, because as far as I can tell, nothing in the DMA adversely affects or even annoys any European tech companies. There are aspects of it that seem written specifically for Spotify, in fact.“

It won't annoy European tech companies as much because the US tech giants have become so big that trying to go against them is financially unviable. US tech giants need to be reigned in to level this playing field. The EU as a body is uniquely positioned to do so, because US lawmakers sure as hell won’t and are dragging their feet because of some dumb ethos about individual freedoms or some shit. Yet a lot of Europeans depend on the services of these predatory tech giants with their vendor lock-ins. And Spotify can get fucked, they’re not better in the slightest

„I do not think the DMA is going to change much, if anything at all, for the better for iOS users in the E.U.“

It won't change much if Apple and other tech giants implement it with malicious compliance. Companies trying to undermine upcoming legislation is not an indication that the legislation is without merit. If anything, it just goes to show with how much pettiness big corporations will try to circumvent any law aimed at loosening their grip on controlling the entire market and extract value from people because they're making sure it's painful to leave

„Apple is proud, stubborn, arrogant, controlling, and convinced it has the best interests of its customers in mind.“

Stop humanizing a company. Their only priority is money drowned in a lot of nice sounding marketing babble to appear more benevolent than they really are, don't even lie to yourself

„Which side is smarter? My money has been on Apple. Yesterday’s announcements, I think, show why.“

Apple is only smart in as much as they try to circumvent regulation at all costs. They’ll always try to push the envelope within the legal framework they're dealing with, so they can say they're complying but actually shitting all over the intent of the legislation. Like Facebook did when they tried to use „small business owners“ in their smear campaign against Apple’s tracking protection dialogs. Nobody is a saint in this constellation

„Apple has also argued, consistently, that they seek to monetize third-party development for the iOS platform, and that being forced to change from their current system […] would greatly complicate how they monetize the platform. And now Apple has revealed a greatly complicated set of rules and policies for iPhone apps in the EU.“

Now this is just gaslighting at this point. Apple could've chosen to simply step out of the way and obviously chose not to do so because no good capitalist will leave precious money on the table. Instead they came up with rules specifically tailored to disincentivize developers to distribute their apps outside of Apple's own walled garden and make it financially ruinous to do so for smaller developers. Regardless of whether they operate in the US or the EU! They made sure to make it as painful as possible to leave, which is a common tactic among all of big tech, only this time they're doing it to third party developers, too.

The ’s is an important piece of legislation. 's malicious compliance is, if anything, an indicator how disdainful big tech has become to playing on a level playing field

And he's absolutely right to do so

However, this is still just another corporate pissing match between two giant companies that don't want to agree on who gets how much of the cake

No matter how much Sweeney is banging on about consumer rights, in the end he's only interested in keeping ALL the money from game sales and IAPs on for himself. Even if they could get rid of all fees, will certainly not lower their prices by 30% because they're shaming Apple into implementing the 's

Struggling to get #MaterialUI and #Tailwind to cooperate in my company's fledgling #React app(s)

My guess is that both are clashing in the way they're setting style rules

My only question would be: if we're using Tailwind already, why are we using an opinionated component library like MUI anyways?

All the utilities and frameworks have been kind of decided on before I joined the team and if I ask to restructure the whole thing I'm gonna be met with rather stark opposition with some argument that will boil down to sunk cost fallacy :drgn_hide:

"We live in the crumbling ruins of a deadly economic system that has alienated us not just from one another but from seeing meaning in our work – even our own creative works. Why learn how to do a thing when a stochastic parrot trained on the works of the best people in that field can create a half-assed version for you for free? The output is good enough to be content. To be a thing that others can consume en passant and forget a millisecond after they saw it. Everything is about the output today, the thing that’s produced and “generative AI” makes production itself cheap as long as quality isn’t a factor."

Couldn't have said it better myself. My thoughts exactly on the whole " revolution" just being another symptom of late stage

Platforms need content to give people an incentive to stay, so that they can place ads that nobody really pays attention to, but for which they still make money. This is true for YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and whatever else they're called.

AI is just the vehicle with which these platforms try to make real creatives superfluous, because they are only interested in their content so that they can feed users with a near endless stream of content in order to artificially keep an advertising-driven business idea alive that is barely viable without exploitation, on which platforms have been based for a long time.

AI is the unilateral termination of the existing social contract that has incentivized platforms to be useful to creators. Now platforms want to be self-sufficient and simply push soulless content so that they can continue to shove ads in your face.

Platforms are the rent-seekers of the internet: they contribute nothing to the creative process and yet try to profit as much as possible from other people's work. AI is just the next logical step on their roadmap.

Just content to keep you hooked and serve you ads. Quality has never been the goal.

SebinNyshkim,
@SebinNyshkim@meow.social avatar

@Serpkah Interessant... Ich werd aus den Produktseiten noch nicht so recht schlau, was die jetzt besonders macht, aber ich lese raus es sind so mini PCs? Mit ordentlich Bums? Kann man da Linux draufmachen? :P

Ich überleg nämlich seit einiger Zeit ob ich mir nicht auch was kompakteres auf den Tisch stellen sollte anstatt immer nen klobigen Tower :drgn_think:

SebinNyshkim,
@SebinNyshkim@meow.social avatar
