Our Dad Alexander, Sandor in Hungarian, was a first generation American. Our Mom Joyce was his Australian War Bride. Celebrating 80 years in 2022. #WWII#History and more.
This little bear has been hanging around our house the last couple days. So small I'd almost call it a cub. The first time I saw it I did a 360 to make sure its mother wasn't around. It seems healthy and uninjured but I'll keep an eye on it.
I decided to roll the dice, that my CV joint on my car wouldn't blowup, for a run up north out of city lights to see the aurora--& I'm so glad I did! Two shots from northern California: First is from Doyle & the second is from Frenchman Lake. What an amazing display! For a time the aurora covered a 180 degrees from east to west & was overhead & could be seen in the south! I shot these photos with a 15mm f/2.0 30sec ISO400.
@elaterite I grew up in the Rogue Valley. We had a house in Medford and Brookings. I've been were the Rogue begins and ends at the ocean. My Dad and I fished near Shady Cove many times. We always stop there at a little ice cream shop. I think it's still there. It's been a decade since I have been through the area.
@elaterite We got our first view across Crystal Bay this morning, for about 60 seconds. My window is 8 feet from the ground. Not much moving on the roads. I hear a lot of snow blowers. ☃️🍻
We started the morning with a little sunshine and a good view of Diamond Peak with a 4 day storm snow total of 65 inches. Mt Rose which is above it received 92 inches. This is the closest the snow has ever reached my window. #NVwx#CAwx#Blizzard
The most famous of the English-Language #WWII broadcasters from Nazi Germany was Brooklyn, New York-born William Joyce, known by the disparaging moniker Lord Haw Haw. Joyce assisted the Nazis throughout the war in their attempt to undermine British morale. https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/article/nazi-propagandist-william-joyce/
Jan 11, 1944 #WWII For more than a half-hour, James Howard singlehandly defended the heavy bombers of the 401st Bomb Group against the swarm of Luftwaffe fighters, repeatedly attacking the enemy and shooting down as many as six. The only US fighter pilot in the European Theater of Operations in #WW2 to receive the Medal of Honor. He also flew 56 missions with the Flying Tigers and shot down 6 Japanese warplanes. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_H._Howard
@elaterite I grew up in the Rogue Valley and always heard stories about Bigfoot. Mount Shasta has always been legendary Bigfoot and alien country. Even Steve Austin came looking for Bigfoot. 👽🤔 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0702119/
Sunset Crystal Bay, Lake Tahoe. The old Tahoe Biltmore sign has been stripped of its neon after 77 years and the building gutted to be replaced with a new Waldorf Astoria. The Biltmore was the last affordable large hotel in North Tahoe.
@elaterite Thanks! The Char-Pit has been having staffing issues. Hard to find and keep them since Covid and housing prices. I've lost several friends after their housing went from month-to-month to Airbnb's.
