@anathema_device I read a piece about this soldier, Hugh Thompson Jnr, recently.

I tried to imagine what it must have felt like for him to stand up for his principles as he did, whilst the 'sheep' around him were mercilessly killing.

What an amazing human, him and those few who supported him.

The 'news' is dire. The people supposedly in control have lost their sanity... so having something to make me chuckle is precious, amid the frustration that I can't fix the world (Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Sudan et al... and don't get me started on the mess that is the UK though of course that's self-inflicted.)

This is the reason that I'm the Black Sheep of the family.

This is an actual family photo that accompanied an invite for the 'family reunion' this year. I was not present when the photo was taken.

My parents & grandparents were not this way.

This has only happened since Trump, although I've only ever fit with very few family members.

This is what has happened.

I think I've been looking for unconditional love ever since. And thinking I've found it in all the wrong places! (In other words, I've had a disastrous love life!)

Sweet little goslings with their parents. One stood guard whilst the other ate. Then they'd swap over. Extremely vigilant parents!

Yesterday my daughter and I were in a shop wearing N95s and a woman commented "I've weaned myself off wearing a mask."
More fool me, I asked her why she would say "weaned".
I can't recall her response, probably because I was amazed at her telling us that she believed vaccines were what caused variants!
She added that she didn't believe in offering children the 'flu vaccine because vaccines were why a new vaccine was required each year.
Gobsmacking. Had to extricate ourselves from convo'. Batty!

Many services have no business being in the private sector. This is one of them.

I can't think of a single service which has benefited from privatisation. Anyone remember the Probation Service fiasco? And surely everyone is now aware of the dire state of UK waters?

It is inappropriate for the 'market' to participate in the social care sector. Re-nationalise water and other utilities, drive the private sector from the NHS... There's a long list that needs attention so obviously it can't all safely be done at once, but there needs to be change.

I'd like to see the neoliberal ideology quashed whilst there are still some of us who remember better times, before it took hold.

The 'market' is not your friend and certainly makes a poor master.

'Northern Lights' over Charlie's Garden, Collywell Bay in Seaton Sluice.

Will add more tomorrow (well, today actually).

We drove up to Cresswell - disappointing, though a lovely evening. Dropped down to Newbiggin... saw a bit of a show, but nothing special.

On the way home my daughter said "Look at that beam!" I pulled in when I could and it was amazing... it was almost like a rainbow in the dark.

@anathema_device we often see them, since we live in the north. But last night there were more colours than I've seen before.
I haven't had time to today to check all the photo's, as I'd intended. But there were periods where it literally looked as though there was a rainbow, but appearing as a beam from the sky down towards the sea. It was gorgeous!

So ironic we'd driven further north hoping for better sightings but had the best views about 2 miles from home!
We would have gone to the lighthouse, because that always looks lovely as a backdrop to the aurora. But it seemed the whole town had headed there! We could see the row of headlights along the sea front from where we were. Just managed to avoid the log jam in time, cutting through countryside back roads.
