A referendum on 22nd May 2015 amended the Constitution of Ireland to provide that marriage is recognised irrespective of the sex of the partners. The amendment was approved by 62%-38% of the voters.

I have prepared a new pack of Motorola radios for my friend D., who has been serving as a medic in armed forces for the last year. As usual I called his wife in Kyiv to coordinate delivery and heard: sorry, he was killed in action on 23 April in Bakhmut.

Orla the golden retriever found her first beach sock of the season. They are rarely seen in early April, so we are very excited. The sandy underpants season doesn’t usually get going until mid-May.

A nice example of a pretty beach glove spotted by Orla the golden retriever. Quite late in the season, for a sighting, particularly as it was a warm day yesterday.

A single shingle-runner, sometimes seen in these waters after being blown off course during a beach 5K. Note hi-vis plumage and rough lacing typical of a juvenile. Orla took it home for further examination.

We spotted a pair of pink beach balloons with their tentacles caught in a sand dune. Sadly, one has died, and its mate performs the touching balloon grief dance. Given the east wind, it could be a Welsh specimen.

We disturbed a nesting towel and bathers pair, sunning themselves on a sand dune. They had obviously spent the night together, but we don’t judge.

A thrilling discovery today of a 51cm Mini Neoprene Water Ball. This Polish native has never been spotted on an Irish beach before, so we are very proud. There was a little seam damage, but the colourful plumage looked stunning.
